Alopecia awareness! Portland, OR, photo shoot

Hello Everyone!

First of all I would like to apologize for not being on the site more often. You are all wonderful people with interesting and inspiring stories to tell.

A little about me. I was diagnosed with Alopecia 10 years ago when I was 15. Its been a tough road for me and my loved ones. For the past month I have been walking this crazy earth without a hair piece and have been feeling pretty confident about it. Still some ups and downs. Now, I have tried this 3 times before and have always reverted back to wearing a hair piece. This time I am hoping it will be different. I am getting support from my family and friends. They are fully aware that if I call them and need them to remind me of what a silly, fun, spirited and BEAUTIFUL person I am they that they will fill that need. Also, I have decided to see a therapist as well. Hopefully, this will help me control my negative thoughts about this hair situation into positive ones.

AND NOW ON TO THE POINT OF THIS BLOG

I have a coworker that is very inspired by my will to change my self confidence and bring awareness to Alopecia. She is a professional photographer and mostly does portraits (as well an occasional wedding). As a way of creating awareness she proposed that we do a photo shoot. I am trying to get a group of as many Alopcians as possible together to try and make this happen. To be honest I am a bit nervous about this experience myself. But I mentioned this to my therapist and she has offered a couple free group sessions to anyone who would want to be involved. I believe that with the right support, creativity and drive we will be able to make a show that will expose the beauty strength and love in all through the art of portrait photography as a way to spread awareness. (was that a run on?)

Please message me if you would like to be involved! I would love your help even if you don want to be in the photos.

We are in Portland OR.

thank you!

I just wanted to let you know that there is a support group through NAAF in the Portland area. They are currently on Facebook. There may be some members in that group that would love to be involved.

Here is the email: or.alopecia@gmail.com

There is also an event coming up:
Charlie's Angels Meet and Greet Opportunity
Saturday Evening - March 16, 2013
Detroit Pistons vs Portland Trail Blazers

NBA Player Charlie Villanueva, Detroit Pistons, was diagnosed with Alopecia at the age of 13. He has partnered with the National Alopecia Areata Foundation and routinely participates in Meet & Greet events before his games. This year the Pistons are scheduled to play the Portland Trail Blazers in March, 2013.

Hope this helps. Georgie

hay Camille just saw your Blog post. Loving the fact you are finding it comfortable embracing your beautiful baldness. I always have friends ask me will my hair ever grow back? my answer " I have 5% chance but I am embracing my bald prime as I could grow back hair in the morning. but I have grown a custom to the air o dynamic look / feel. It would mean I have to worry about shaving/waxing, bad hair days,shampoo/conditioner and hair gel. " Its a real to shey answer. I always walk away with a cheeky grin after saying it.
