Im wondering about getting alopecia later in life, i had just turned 30 when i found my first patch and I read a lot how people have had it most of there lives.
I would like to talk to anyone who has got it later in life and has had positive results with the hair growing back. (hey, I can live in hope that my hair will grow back and not fall out again!).

So, were you older when you got alopecia, I would love to chat.

Hi, Bel. I was older when I had my first patch - age 47, and I had only patches of baldness until I was 54. Then, last year I lost it all. I'm afraid I can't offer you positive results at this point, though I have had some slight eyebrow, eyelash and nose hair regrowth recently.

I've chosen not to expect my hair to grow back, just because it's been better for me emotionally not to think about that possibility. If it did grow back, I'd certainly be happy, but I'd hate to go through losing it again.

I put some videos on YouTube:

I wish you all the best,
Mary ( :-)

Hi Bel, I had my initial loss around 24 years of age- patchy places on my beard area - never had a beard but when I couldnt be bothered shaving for a few days I could see varied bare patches -smooth.

Then skip a few years later and half of my top eyelashes on my right eye suddenly vanished overnight like some evil eyebrow fairy violated me. they grew back much later on.

A little while later - few months, I noticed a perfect round spot on my head (size of a golf ball). Luckily for me I could conceal it, though it fully grew back again a few weeks later - very weird.

Then a while later my eyebrows deceided to partly dissapear - they seem to be in the process of regrowing. Also now my left eyelashes have partly vanished??

So for me so far it seems I lose hair then it regrows months, years later....Its just a very erratic, so there you go my hair grew back just takes a hell of a time sometimes if your lucky :) good luck

Hiya Bel
I'm 37 and got Alopecia October last year. I lost pretty much all my hair by January. Now here we are in May and I've got it pretty much all back. I do have a couple of very small patches and at times lose a lot of hair around that area. If Alopecia is coming back it's coming back VERY slowly. Who knows, I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I'm one of the lucky ones. They do say it is common for those over 30 to only get Alopecia the once - I'm not 100% convinced yet.

What a weird thing this Alopecia is!
Thanks everyone for your comments.
Daniel, you made me smile with the 'evil eyebrow fairy violated me', I have just noticed that my right eyebrow seems to be loosing hair.
I guess I can hold onto hope that my hair will grow back, but learn to accept that it may not.....

Hi there. I am a little late with the reply, but I got my first patch at 35. For a year I had patches on the back and sides. Had to wear a ponytail. Very thick hair to begin with, got considerably thinner - probably lost half the thickness. Within a year, the spots had filled in. I was overjoyed. One optimistic month of wearing my hair down... and then, :( another patch. That was a few months ago. I now have multiple patches and shedding. Quite sad because I had too been told that I'd probably just have one patch and it would grow in and that would be it. Hasn't happened that way. And it's disheartening to hear that others have had re-growth and then lost it all a few years later. It's almost like we are just waiting for "the other shoe to drop". The sore head and itching and shedding make me nuts. Watching my ponytail become smaller and smaller gives me anxiety. I pray for all of us that one day, there is a real solution and cure. Until then, thankfully, we have one another for support and guidance. All the best to you. Keep me updated on your progress.
