Alopecia Universalis - Do you have any other disease or condition?

Hi I am new to this - I recently in Oct was diagnosed with AU (self-diagnosed as all my docs were useless) I had AA when I was about 10 and had cortisone shots back then and had full hair growth and never any issues until now at 39!!! I never thought it would come back and did not know any better and certainly did not know it could be AU - but I am dealing with it pretty good, the hardest part is the eyebrows and eyelashes.... but what I am trying to find out from anybody with the same thing if they have any other health issues???? I have the family of psoriasis, allergies asthmas.... and really believe it is all relate somehow... so if anyone else has these I would just love to know - I just pray I did not hand this crap to my children... so far they don't have any of the allergies, psoriasis.. etc. - love to hear from anyone.. also did any of you remember any symptoms prior to your hair falling out...ok bye for now :-)

My asthma and allergies brought on eczema and migraines and I break out in a rash if I use the wrong soap powder...It seemed to have gotten worse.... They now think I have an underactive thyroid so the inside of this body is crazy but hey it could always be worse.

I don't think it is wrong, I would be doing the same thing, if it worked before it can work again, I would do anything for my children not to go through other kids meanness and torture, and their self being for when they get in the teen age years - I believe we as parents can install that positiveness in our children and awareness but not too many people I know have even heard of this disease and say oh your hair will grow back... I am babbling again! I believe I would do what you are and try again and see if the next round works for and keep doing the biotin :-) Trina have your allergies or asthmas changed in anyway? Diana

well I was giving her aloe vera juice and a biotin supplement and it was really working. I stopped and a small spot appeared. I am going to start her back on it and she is back at the dr because meds did work for her within a month I saw regrowth. I just dont want her to endure this struggle... It was hard to deal with and I am so much stronger but for her I want more.. I dont think it is wrong for me to want her to be healthy and happy... Is it?

So weird about the asthmas and no problems - when my hair fell out in October just in clumps, my psoriasis was pretty bad, but exactly a week prior to my hair falling out, my psoriasis DISAPPEARED, I MEAN GONE, LIKE it all went to my head or something! Now that my hair is all gone everywhere, I have back my lovely psoriasis! - I hope your daughters will continue to grow back, I had AA when I was 10 and had those cortisone shots in my head... my hair grew back and I pretty much forgot all about it until almost 30 years later now complete AU!! wow... the body is a strange animal!!

Diana,

My mother had AA one time and never another spot. Thank you for the condolences. It is hard to feel like you are the reason she has to deal with something. It came back right away and I continue to pray that she is ok.. I just think that if she could get her asthma under control then somehow that would allow this to go dormant forever... When her asthma was out of control she had no problems.. They are somehow all related to one another I believe.. There are other on here who have children with it as well... Of all my sisters I am the only one with asthma and the only one with alopecia as well

I wonder if you are born with this and it stays dormant somehow - I can deal with this I wish I knew more and yes of course if there was a cure that was not to harmful I would be up to it! And Trina... I am sorry your daughter has it, thats tough, I know none of us parents would ever wish our children to go through anything, especially in todays society. Funny thing nobody in my immediate family, including grandparents has this, or ever had aa, au, any allergies, asthma, eczema, psoriasis etc... - I could talk about his forever.... sorry! have a great day everyone!

This is all very amazing to me - I am very thankful of course that this is not a killer disease - just a very unfair one and I sure hope my genes do not continue on....

Hi there, I have AU and have had no other symptoms. My mom has psoriasis and a bit of arthritis. I think that I may developing arthritis in my right hand and knees, not exactly sure. Other than that I am the only one in my family with any form of alopecia. I guess that I'm the lucky one :-)
