It's the year anniversary of my accident that started the alopecia. Empowered by everyone's comments I am going for lunch with no head covering. Will let you know how I get on. At the very least I should get extra portions cos they feel sorry for me!!!!!!!

It just gets easier and easier. For awhile, I counted all my bald "firsts": first time to the grocery store, first time to the public library, first time to the gym...then I stopped counting.

You look fantastic. I am trying to build up the courage to shave my remaining hair. I have one large bald patch and another has just started. My family want me to leave it. I told them as soon as the two patches join, I am going to shave my head.

Thanks guys. I did it yesterday and at work today (I work in a senior/secondary school).I was scared but Mary you're right. Scary at first but by the end of the day the kids weren't giving me a second glance. One guy even bought me chocolates to say well done for being brave!

Leonora, shaving did empower me, I took control rather than waiting for hair to keep falling out.

I've had almost 100% positive experiences with people's reactions to my baldness, ranging from a compliment to this:

WoooHooo Sam, congratulations!!! That is such a brave thing to do. I am so happy for you as I know the feeling inside that you get when you overcome this. As Mary says, it only gets easier. I don't even realize if anyone is staring anymore. My family or friends usually point it out!!! LOL. Keep up the good work and keep us updated.
Love and Hugs,
Dotty

Just to continue the love fest - it was because of this website I felt empowered to go out bald and I'm glad I did. The kids at school have been fantastic. Some of the naughtier boys I work with didn't blink an eye when I went in with no wig, they just said 'nice new wig miss!!' Could have cried and hugged them all. Would encourage anyone to do it. It is scary pants and no mistake but it was so nice to feel free.
