Since I started shaving my head I have not only fallen in love with the look and feel, but I have become increadibly anal with getting the "perfect" shave. The first few times were kind of iffy, but from those experiences I have learned what works. Some of these tips may or may not help you, but it will put you on the right track.

My current routine consists of showering first thing in the morning. Using a loofa i lightly clean my scalp. I then let the warm water rinse my scalp for a little while. I have read that warm water will help soften the hairs on your head making for a smoother shave. I pat dry my head and immediately put a shaving gel on my head and let it sit while I brush my teeth. I have also read that letting your cream or gel sit for a while can also soften hairs. Now depending on how much stubble there was, I either shave with or against the grain. Remember this is not a race, take your time and do it well. If I do shave once with the grain I will then shave again against. Once this is done, I take a little water in my hand and slowly rub against my scalp, feeling for any spots i may have missed. If i come across a spot, and i usually do, I run my hand against the grain lifting the hairs and follow immediately with the razor.

With the fun part done, it's onto cleanup. Using my hands I lightly splash som warm water against my head, and then pat dry. To prevent any irritation or infection later in the day I apply an aftershave gel to my scalp and gently massage in. After this drys I apply a small amount of aloe Vera gel. The aloe gel will help heal any cuts, razor burn, or bumps that occurred during the shave. It also keeps you scalp nice and moist. I noticed if I use just aftershave my head tends to dry out, the aloe really helps.

Using this method, the hair that does exist in my scalp tends to stay away for most of the day.

I've been doing this for a few years now and I've always shaved against the grain. The warm water actually opens your pores so you're able to get closer to the root. I don't know if leaving the gel on longer actually does anything but if it works for you, go with the flow. I usually shave my head just like any man would shave his face at the sink however shaving in the shower really seems to work better plus multitasking is great! I prefer using an odor free aftershave on my head as I find gels and lotions make my head greasy and it gets greasy enough on it's own from natural oils not to mention I don't want to blind anyone. Shaving takes me about 2 minutes however I'm dying to try a headblade at some point when I feel like spending a fortune on a razor, I've heard nothing but great experiences with it.

When your scalp is naturaly "shiny," it's usually a sign that the hair is never going to grow there again. This has been my experience. My AU scalp could blind you in the sun. lol

I don't actually shave in the shower. I realize my post may have seemed like I do, but I get out and shave in front of the sink. And wow a 2 min shave..... I applaud you and your speed. It takes me about 20 min. The first shave yes an easy 2 mink as with the second, if i go that route. It's the pushing my hand against my head searching for any imperfections in the shave that takes the bulk of the time.

When I shave I take a warm shower and lather my head with soap and rinse. After a towel dry I bring out the electric razor and buzz eyerything for about 2 minutes. To avoid the shine I use a matte finish head creame which keeps things moisturized. BTW I tried the headblade and just couldn't get used to it. I always cut my scalp. Therefore the electric razor. No fuss no muss!
