thanks guys i was told today that the guy had run his hands down my hair n realised it wasnt real, then was bein a dick about it, i got so upset that i punched him, ive never had some1 notice or ask me if it was a wig, im gutted that i hit him as i never do things like that so do feel a little embarrassed but suppose its done now, but my confidence wont get any better if ignorant people never think before they speak, why cant my hair hurry n grow so i dont have to suffer this no more :(

Hey Lynne, don't feel bad about this.... well, maybe if it was a Glasgie Kiss you gave him, p'raps (you being from Embra, and that) :)
That's the thing about being human - we don't always react in a logical way (there'd be no need for this site, then, would there?) - so maybe the best thing to do is just let us all know next time you're going out on the razz.... and we'll stay outta the way, just in case... deal?? :)

Hey Lynne,

That must have been major guilts the next day. I've pretty much stopped drinking now except on the odd occasion and only with friends. I was finding that although I was coping with the alopecia normally, what I was keeping hidden deep down was coming out when I was drinking. Although the tears came out a bit more than the fists. But I find big crowds in clubs hard to deal with, especially if I'm worrying about my hair (wig) getting pulled.

Don't beat yourself up too much about hitting that guy. He does sound like a dick and although maybe not everyone's been there, I certainly have. Hitting someone when drunk is a reaction and one best avoided but it's happened and there's not a lot you can do about it now. Just take it as part of the process of what you're going through and know not to let pricks like him get under your skin in future, especially when you've had a few. I've been there, I've beat myself up about it and eventually realised that there's no point on being too hard on yourself because it doesn't achieve anything, except making you feel more miserable about yourself. And what's the point of that?

Chin up hun, and just put it behind it you.

Hi Lynne,

I think I've got a whole different mind set to you on wearing a wig. I don't really care if people know I'm wearing a wig, cos, well, I am. I would care if I wasn't wearing one and people thought I was. I run on the assumption that people know I'm wearing a wig which clearly isn't true. I've not long started a new job and I forget that a conversation line of, "god, I think I've melted my hair" is a little confusing if it hasn't even crossed their minds that my hair isn't real. So my advice is, go out thinking that everyone knows you are wearing a wig and you'll be surprised how few people actually notice, never mind care and don't be afraid to let people know your barnet is acrylic. Losing our hair isn't something to be ashamed of - it's part of what makes us different and interesting. And let's face it, some of the wigs we wear, are so much better than some folk's bio hair. And it doesn't frizz up when it rains :-)
