I don't no how it took me so long to notice this... but today after the usual shower instead of air drying my hair i decided to blow dry and straighten it... totally forgetting about the 3-4in bald patch at the back of my head i had the blow dryer on high (since the rest of my hair is thick )so the hot air attempting to dry my hair eventually got to my bald patch and burnt like you wouldn't believe, all in all my mom laughed at me, haha, anyone else ever have this happen ??

Haha, yes I have had that happen! Probably did not burn as bad as yours did though. That's actually a way that I find new bald spots, unfortunately. Those spots seem to be more sensitive, although they are sometimes difficult to find in thick hair just by looking..

well thats kindof how i found mine when i first got it about a year ago i was like " oh what the **** , why is it so hot there, and then i was feeling around and m scalp felt different and i didnt think anything of oh maybe theres no hair there lol, at the time i was living away at school so i came home for the weekend and was like hey mom can you look at something for me and she freeked out, so i just left it cuz it wasnt so bad at the start and didnt have a family dr. aat the time, finally getting into a clinic about a week ago i found out i had alopecia and ive descovered another spot which actually makes me laugh because its not a patch its like a 1/4 in line that almost makes a full circle with some hair in the middle of it :P.

That circle outline with hair actually sounds kind of cool... haha. Yeah I discovered mine while away at school too. Actually, my boyfriend found it and so I told my mom, "heeeey, yeah I have a bald spot." She thought I was just overreacting until I showed her the spot over my spring break!

"Ohhh, you weren't kidding when you said a BALD spot!" I think everyone had the same reaction. And of course when I go to the student health center in college (hey, it's free!), I just happen to get the middle aged bald man to look at it: "Oh that's not too bad. Look, I'm balding too!" Ahh, life.

Hey Laurel, - be careful at the hairdresser's - you might end up with a "crop circle" :) Anyway, it's probably not too bad....
