This site is both empowering and triggering for me - while it's great to find my bald tribe, the amount of trauma/shame/worry people have about their alopecia is difficult to witness. I've been totally hair-free for the past 11 years, and it has been one of the BEST teachers of my life. I'd really love to find others who have made peace with, and even celebrate, their baldness (while always remember that looking different is hard, but not necessarily bad).

Hello Brenna,

I find that being Bald has had a wonderful effect on my character. No amount of upbringing makes such a difference! Life is literally staring back at you when you look the mirror. Nothing is so confronting than being confronted with yourself an then having to DEAL with it. No sweet escape, no mercy. So all we have to do is deal with it!
When there is no escape: let's FACE it! No use crying over spilled milk!

When I try to explain my 'miraculous courage' I always tell them: What else am I to do? Kill myself? Hide for a lifetime? What do you expect?
If people stare or comment, it really is their choice. Being bald was never my own decision, so do not hold ME responsible for my looks if you please!
If they're not able to cope with it, it's their problem. For being so narrow minded is a sad thing indeed. It spreads like a cancer in the mind and effects ones life to no end.

The other halve is just shamefully curious. AS I AM about too many things. I do not blame them. They cannot help themselves.
Like does one ever greet the person IN the wheelchair, or do we speak with the person BEHIND the push bar? I always have to remind myself. Shame on me! But there it is.

Have a good day!

Most of the time, I forget I am bald. I don't even think of putting on makeup most of the time. There was many years, I didn't leave the house without makeup, and if I didn't have my wig on, I wouldn't even go near a window, in fear I would be seen. I have grown milestones in my life, and quite proud of it. I am proud bald now for 9 yrs. It wasn't easy, but now I am grateful I had to courage to choose me...exactly as I was made!
