hello all

I'm new to this site, but have had AA for almost 18 years now. i have always treated my AA with the steroid injections, due to the face that is the only thing that ever worked for me. untill now, i've always been able to cover my spots with my own hair by simply changing hairstyles. now however, i have some really large spots that can no longer be covered aside from with a baseball hat. my problem occured due to the fact i'm leaving for a cruise in a couple of days, and i don't really think the formal dinning will approve of me wearing a baseball hat with my evening gown. so, i'm considering the high ponytail with everything else shaved if it can be done. if that can't be done, i'm actually considering the mohawk type of haircut.

untill i got onto this site and started reading all of ya'lls stories, i would never have really considered shaving my head. but after reading all of your stories, i do believe that i've finally come to a place where i can do it, and still hold my head up high. please wish me luck, as i do already have anxiety problems aside from the AA, and i'm sure that the looks i'm going to recieve won't help that.

but again, thanx to all of you for posting your stories. they are a real inspiration, and have really helped me come to a point where i'm ready to shave my head and get it over with. thank you all.

Hi Amie! Have you seen this video of Caitlin? The way she wears her hair is gorgeous: http://www.alopeciaworld.net/video/whats-important

Those of us who have shaved and who rock the bald and elegant look love it. When I first started going "out", I found that if I put on a confident, "there's nothing unusual about me", "I'm beautiful" face, people seemed to react to me THAT way. I also seemed to begin to BELIEVE it. Eventually, I didn't have to try to feel that way, I just do. Good luck - tell us how the cruise goes. Mary

Shaving is not the only option. There are some decent wigs out there, as well as extensions and hair bonding. If you think walking around bald will increase your anxiety it might be worth considering the alternatives.

I never wanted to shave my head, when my spots were too big to cover up I finally shaved after not being able to look at myself in the mirror anymore with out a wig. I left my bangs because I have always had my bangs in my face and I still had them, and it helps me deal with loosing my hair a little better.
What ever you do I wish you luck.
