Cross-eyed...baldness - They are assets

I have what they call lazy eyes, but the more common term is crossed-eyes. All my life my eyes have been this way. When I tried to get them corrected I kept hearing the same refrain, "Well you have good control over your eyes." What is that! I wanted my eyes to control themselves.
After going to several different doctors, none who knew each other, I reconciled myself to the fact that these eyes were going to be with me always. If you look at my pictures you don't know that I have crossed eyes because I have control over them. I focus intently on that camera and bring my eyes together. Snap! No one is the wiser.
I love to see the shock on people's face when I am talking and they are looking around trying to figure out who I am talking to. I will say, "Don't look at the left eye, always look at the right eye." They crumble in laughter. Part of them are embarrassed and the other half is laughing so hard.
Interestingly enough, my eyes are considered to be one of the best parts of me. I have people always telling me how beautiful my eyes are. Go figure!
I feel the same way about hair loss. I can't do anything about making my hair come back. Actually, I've never tried to make my hair come back. I have worn wigs and was more uncomfortable with that wig on my head than I was with my bald head.
I remember searching for a job and I wore a wig to interviews. Well, when I got the job I had to figure out how to get that wig off my head. A friend of mine told me that over the weekend just act as though I got my hair cut. That is what I did. I came in on that Monday bald. Everyone loved it. Needless to say, I told them the truth.
I laugh and joke about being bald just like I do about being cross-eyed. Neither defines me, but each have become a tool to engage people in conversation...and to make them laugh. I love bringing joy to people.
I made the decision to take control of what others may think is a deficiency. It is, only if I allow it to be. On both counts, I have decided to use them as assets.

Rose, it is great to know that we share two assets--baldness and lazy eyes! Actually we're doubly blessed!
