Don't believe the new & improved Nioxin hype

Hello beautiful people. So, I fell for it. This really cool stylist who cuts my sons hair kept saying to me: You know, The formula for Nioxin has really improved you should try it. Being tired of covering up my head with hats and scarves I thought, oh hell why not. So,$45 dollars later for the shampoo and conditioner. Then $27 more for the scalp treatment. Plus $37 for the follicle booster. And last $10 for this oil from India promising new hair growth. I gave it all a try. Each night after applying the shampoo and letting it set in for 2 minutes. Then conditioner and have to let that set in for 3-4 minutes. Then come morning the scalp treatment which made my halo of hair I call it feel like the bristles on a broom. Then 2-3 times a week the oil. Then came the constant checking in a mirror hopeing and praying to notice some new growth. Nothing. Nada. Nope. Not in this lifetime. So, I thought ya know what. Forget it. Spend the money towards charity better yet some ice cream for yours truly. Sping is just around the corner. And Viola Davis at the Grammys was a total inspiration. She went to the Grammys without her wig and she does wear wigs. But in this or last months People magazine they said under her photo, "There is something extroidinary when we stop apologizing for who we are." I love that ! Thank you. I thought. So, buzzing off my halo of hair tomorrow and going back to my $1.29 Sauve shampoo. Not wasting as much time and water in my showers. And God Bless, letting my husband have some peace and quiet without me constantly asking him notice any new growth repeatedly. I called my mom and told her I stopped using Nioxin and she too has AA and wears wigs. She said "Honey, if it worked there wouldn't be any bald people anymore." Ugh... I hate it when she's right. But it's true. So, save your $, time, and heartache and move on brothers and sisters. I am. -Kiki.

Wow! Did I need to hear that...I began using Nioxin recently and, of course, I am still "waiting"!

love this. Last time I was at a stylist, I looked at the Nioxin. My friend also studied for stylist. Both of them had told me that Nioxin does not create new growth, only promotes healthy growth that would come in anyways. Also the product creates the existing hair to "appear" fuller, making it appear as if you have more.
Your mom is absolutely right, if there was a product out there that does grow hair, then there would be alot less bald people. Even Rogaine has been said that once stopped, the hair will continue to fall out. And this is for people without an autoimmune disease that controls our hair follicles.
My daily mantra is "alopecia may control my hair, but it will not control my life."
Live a happy, full and peaceful life in the body you have. Love your body, for it is your temple, your safe place.

Cheers Michelle. Terri, I love your mantra. Yep. The buck stops here. I need to focus on my body and on that note, I have a mini trampoline calling my name. Namaste.

Nioxin = Fail

I too tried the Nioxin, did'nt work for me either. I got so tird of all the burning & itching that goes along with all those lotions & potions. I scooped them all up & gave them to my dematologiist when I told her I was all done, it my hair comes back & comes back & if not, well I continue to live my life as a bald lady. I see her every 6 months now.
I really like Michele's comment about the rocking body. That is a fabulous idea.
Thank goodness we have each other & this great site AW.

I hate it when my mom is right too- but I gotta love your mom for being succinct. I decided to work on my health, and if my hair grows back, great. If it doesn't, at least I will feel good.I am a control freak, and letting go of trying to control my hair is hard. I just gotta keep reminding myself to focus on what I can actually control. I also want to master the art if blending in- because I want people knowing this about me to be my choice.still working on that one.
