I have a black lace front wig and it's not the colour I want. It's real hair.. Has anyone ever dyed a Black wig like stripped it and then coloured it the colour they want. I'm thinking a chocolate brown colour but I don't want to go ahead and do it as if it messes up that's a lot of money ruined..

Funny.... I just bought a 100% human hair wig from fortune wigs and it arrived way too dark. My hairdresser tried numerous times to dye and bleach it lighter but the colour just wouldn't take. Didn't even change in the slightest. I'm totally clueless why this could be. Hope you will have better luck

I tried once to dye a purple colour into a dark human hair wig and the colour didn't take at all. I think most human hair wigs on the market have hair that's been processed in such a way that it is difficult to dye them without ruining them. x

I am a licensed cosmetologist that specializes (and wears) only in wigs and hair pieces.  Some hair will lift but only if it is virgin hair.  Careful with what vendors claim is "virgin".  It all originates as virgin but after it's been cleaned and colored it isnt virgin anymore.  Chances are it will not lift.  It's much easier to darken a lighter colored wig than to lighten a dark one!

If you do want to try it, swatch test it first on a small piece of hair that is unseen & watch it carefully while it processes!

Good luck!

Hi, It's easy to light the color of the hair just using a lightening product. I use sheer blonde (the spray) by john frieda or sunkiss by l'oreal. Both of them will transform a black hair into a medium dark hair. I put some pictures of one wig I have:

And after:

Hope it helps :)

HI Natasha

I would recommend contacting the retailer or supplier you purchased your wig from and have them recommend the best product to use to lighten there hair. As they will have knowledge and experience on how there product react's.
