Things have been quite interesting at work lately as far as my alopecia is concerned. Last week I finally spoke to the store manager about not wearing my wig to work anymore and she has no problems with this at all but we agreed I whould wear a scarf at least so that the public won't feel uncomfortable - I understand this and although it isn't completely fair, it is a customer service job and I can't let discomfort stand in the way of my own progress.
So, on Halloween I wore my bright red wig - my "play" wig to work with my kitty ears as my first step to introducing a different appearance to my coworkers. So far this week I haven't worn my wig in at all. I have a good collection of scarves to chose from and they are so much more comfortable than my wig, I've been much happier! Work was the only place I ever wore my wig to. Someone told me they thought I looked better with the scarf on and my reply was "I know!" I can't believe I said that!!!! I did thank them though! My coworkers suddenly seem so accepting of my new appearance, it is very comforting. I even had a regular customer approach me today to tell me I looked so beautiful that I was like an "Egyptian goddess". I thought that was hilarious but it was touching nonetheless. I'm so happy I can go into work as myself now! :)

WHAT! YOU DIDN'T PAINT MY FACE ON THE BACK OF YOUR HEAD AND ATTEND THE HALLOWEEN PARTY? WHY, I NEVER! Anyway, I can see the "Egyptian goddess" in you. :-) Just remember, though: Next time take off your scarf and use it to choke the idiot who said you look better with it on. ;-)

LOL now now rj, what was that you said about WRITING EVERYTHING IN CAPITAL LETTERS?????? LOL It's bad enough I call my boss (AJ) rj, and besides I'd look an aweful lot like out lot boy at that point and I don't enjoy pushing carts LOL. Thank you though the "idiot" thought I looked better with my scarf on instead of my wig so I would assume I'd be just as cool bare headed as well cause I would have had a quirky comeback to someone who'd be so rude.
Thank you as well Sandy! Silk scarves are a little harder to keep in place, I find if I work a long shift with it on I have to adjust it from time to time but my cotton scarves are great, they stay right where they should and they're even warm for cold Canadian winters. You are beautiful too Sandy, when you do decide to go out AU naturelle just remember to smile at everyone you pass and they will return it! :)

is typing with all lowercase letters the opposite of YELLING online? LOL For real though, Carol you're just too cool to have your day or life ruined by any fool. Keep looking after your amazing self; I see your name in lights! :-)

My wife, who is bald with au, often wears headscarves, more often lately than her wigs. I love the look of a fashion headscarf on a beautiful lady, just as I love the bald look on a beautiful lady.

Hey Carol,

I know all about the scarves -- and since the weather is so psychotic here right now -- hot during the day and freezing at night -- they are actually coming in handy! I don't have any silk scarves; maybe now that I have such a significant amount of growth on my head now the silk ones will stay on my head.

I'm glad you are feeling more comfortable with the wig-less look; however, regardless of whether or not your job is customer service, you should be allowed to be totally bald if you so choose. As long as the quality of your service doesn't change, then it shouldn't matter what's on top of your head. After all, alopecia doesn't have anything to do with how you treat people!

I made that choice too - I only wore my wigs to work and found them uncomfy, plus I used to worry about what they looked like etc. I switched to scarves when I changed jobs and never looked back. I have loads of them and match them to my outfits. They are so much more comfortable!
