I had my eye brows tatooed about 5 years ago and then again last month. Ihave alopecia for a long tme and it took me a while to decide to do it. I went light at first as you can get a top up as part of the service. They will apply a topical cream whihc numbs the area. It is a little sore, like a pin pricks but it is well wirth it. Or at least i think so.

Hi Montoya,

I did this and am so happy with the results.
My tattoo artsist used ice and a numbing cream. It does hurt a bit but nothing awful. Mine wasnt pin pricks I would say more like being scratched with a needle. Which exactly what she did. You can take a little benadryl beforehand too.

It hurt! Sorry to tell you this but mine hurt A LOT. Apparently about 80% of people hardly feel it all all though, so hopefully you'll be in that group. Unfortunately, I am definitely one of the other 20%. The lady who did mine said there was no way she'd ever do eyeliner on me 'cos I had such a hard time with the eyebrows, which typically hurt less. When you first get them done, they will be very dark too, so be perpared for that - they go to their normal colour and look more natural within a week though. I am very fair, so they looked horrible at first! And mine were only done about a year and half ago and they have faded so much, I have to draw over them now. I am trying to decide if it worth getting them done again. Good luck, hope yours work out for you - it was so great while they lasted and I didn't have to draw them on every morning.

Mine wasn't bad at all, they used topical anesthetic, so really, I didn't feel a thing! Whenever it became uncomfortable, I would just let her know, then she would apply more anesthetic. Now-- prepare yourself for what you will look like afterwards!!!! You WILL be extremely swollen, and they most likely, because of the swelling, will NOT look even at for several days. It gets better, but it's a little frightening when you first look in the mirror KNOWING this is permanent on your face, and it looks scary! It is the best thing ever though! I would do it over again in a heart beat. I just wish I would have done it sooner!!

Hi Montoya,
You should do it. I had it done back in 2001. I have a medium dark skin coloring. My technician was good with mixing the colors so that it was complementary to my skin color. I had my eyebrows and eyes lined. Unfortunately, the liners did not take in a weeks time it was gone.
As far as painful - yes but not in the realm of having a tooth pulled without anesthesia. ;- ) It is like having pin pricks continously. The most painful point is just above the eye towards the center. There is a foramen (holes) at that spot. Bundles of blood and lymphatic vessels go through these openings to innervate the face and eyes. This area is tender. As the technician travels out towards the end of the eye sensation is more like prickling.
Make sure your technician has a certificate to operate. That they use clean and disposible needles. Ask about anesthetics, what can go wrong during procedure, during healing, how long it takes to heal and what to do. Maybe ask your MD for a script for antibiotics to protect yourself from infection.
Otherwise, enjoy the freedom of having to draw in your eyebrows daily! I am glad I did it. Karen
