So today was the first day back to work with my new nekkid head. I prepared a lot of ppl, but still I was greeted with "Whoa! Why? The summer 'do ?" A few ppl I just nodded at and said it was for the summer. A few others I kinda filled in some details.

The Surprising thing was, when I mentioned Alopecia, a few people nodded and said they knew or know someone (else) with AA. Either someone they know had a small patch lost and then it returned or a relative has it.

I actually got a lot of support. Well.. it makes you wonder if ppl are just being nice. What do you tell someone with something "glaring" about themselves? "Hey, you know, your head is really shiney, can you cover up?" Well, that was along the lines of what I was expecting. I didn't get anything but compliments. A few told me they just weren't used to seeing me this way (Sans hair).

All in all, the only teasing I got was from some grocery guys that pretty much already shave their heads anyway (it's hot throwing freight/food). It's a guy thing anyway. ¬.¬

So my thoughts of getting teased, kidded, razzed, all that... was wasted energy. And here I was mentally thinking the worst.

I think it is human nature to expect the worst from the unknown.

People were only shocked because I never cut my hair really short. Sure, they noticed my "solar panel" that was the only visible spot of AA but they pretty much thought it was... yep, you guessed it... "Male Pattern Baldness."

I had a dentist appt today also. When I went and checked in, one of the assistants looked at me and was in semi-shock. She kinda stammered, "Jay, you cut your hair!" I just replied, "Do you like it?" She was trying to take her foot out of her mouth and said yes and complimented me.

I had to change chairs at the dentist (one for reg. dentist and other for orthodontist). While waiting, the young woman that I normally see came up front and started calling my name and looking around like she didn't see me. I said hello a couple of times and she stopped and looked at my face before you could see the light go on.

I told her the story and again, she too knew someone that had a small bout of AA.

So that was my first day @ work. This morning, as I walked out the door, I had serious butterflies. All unfounded, of course ¬.¬

So how long did you have the spot b4 it fell completely out? I have AA and I currently have a spot on the top/back of my head that looks like male pattern balding. A couple of weeks ago I got two new spots and the rest of my hair was looking very thin and it was falling out by the hand-full and ended up shaving my head completely to avoid the drama of it falling out. So the other day I ran out of razors sharp enough to shave my head so its been a couple of days since I have shaved. I noticed that the new spots I had b4 had filled in and besides the spot on the top/back of my head, my hair seems to be filling in nicely. So I have decided to let it grow and see what happens. But, I know how unpredictable Alopecia can be so that's why I ask how long did you have the one spot b4 it all fell out.

I believe it started with my facial hair which started late 2007/early 2008. (read my post: When did it start for more details.

I had this to start:

then I found more.

So I saw that it was becoming a bit more obvious

Which settled it for me. I had it cut down (see my page w/pics)
That all happened within the last month. I didn't even have my first hole till someone looked at me and mentioned it. I don't know which hole was the first. it could have been the obvious one up top or it could have been any of the others more hidden by existing hair.

I'm a guy when it comes to my hair most of the time. Wash it daily, comb it, part it and go. I had my routine in the morning and from what I saw, there were no obvious goings-on. And if I saw hair up there, it was all good as long as it was clean and combed. 0_o
Hope that helps. If I mis-understood, sorry. m-_-m

It was the same for me. Far too much energy wasted on the what if's. once that step is taken, the rest are lighter. Congrats
