Not sure if I've got this blog thing figured ,but here it goes...

I was curious about AU and AT I've lost almost all my hair and my brows were falling out. The story behind that, is advice from an allergy specialist. I have intestinal problems so on my last visit to my gastro Doc he says "Have you changed your hair." I smiled and told him whats been happening. He immediately refered me to an allergy specialist.
On my visit with this Doctor, she explained that 40% of alopecia sufferers have a gluten intolerance. She has since put me on a trial diet(no meat, eggs, soy, dairy or gluten) to see if my hair will grow back.....

About 2 months ago I went to see a naturopath and his advice was to not eat dairy or meat . So my diet is hard sometimes to cope with, but I guess it's worth a try.
I was wondering if any of you had heard of this relationship between gluten and alopecia, and if any of you have Celiac?
Also, I have another question. Do people with AT and AU get that white fuzzy hair that growth after hairloss ?
I'm getting that ..weird thing it doesn't hurt to pull it.

I have found out that I can't eat wheat, but it's okay to eat rye, oats, and other gluten. I also am highly sensitive to eggs, milk and cottage cheese. But regular cheese is okay.

It was suggested before I had AU that I had a gluten intolerance. So I tried staying off. The bloating got much better but then all my hair fell out. I wasn't very strict about staying off the gluten...so I hope this works for you. Keep me posted if it works for you.

I have never had food allergies until I was 18 years old. I found out through blood allergy testing that I was allergic to Peanuts. Then the year following I found out I was allergic to Wheat and Dairy. I have never had any problems eating wheat so I haven't changed my diet much but I'm curious to see if it works for you! I'm also allergic to just about every tree and grass.. not to mention mold, dust... almost everything! And I also get severe sinus infections quite frequently. I found out recently that people with Alopecia get sinus infections more often.. due to missing nasal hair.. Who knew...

God Bless,
Kristin

My mom and I cant have dairy and we recently figured out that we are both sensitive to wheat and gluten. Also a second cousin of mine has celiac disease. My mom also gets sinus infections alot but i only get them rarely. So we are slowly taking it out of our diets and i feel better when i do. So far the only thing i really miss is beer. And does any one get an upset or sour stomach from too much sweet stuff (sugary or sweet liquors). I get it from sweet drinks or overly sweet desserts.

Oh wow I never dreamed sp many alopecians had the same things Incdredible really. But from what I'm reading --Changing diet doesn't bring the hair back--- I don't really mind if it doesn't. Having alopecia gets easier all the time. I just want to feel healthy
Thanks for all the comments!!

My niece and I are doing the gluten free, sugar free, diet. we will, ,. see how it goes. Alot of research regarding autoimmune disorders points to living a gluten free life. As you can see Im a bald chick , and yes it does get easier, I have had friends that wished they did not have to deal with hair any longer, and one shaves by choice she likes it so much. Good Luck

I know it's now 3-4 years ago that these posts were written. Just wondering how everyone went trialing gluten free? Did it make a difference?

Thanks xx
