A few months ago I wrote a blog saying that I went to an endocrinologist for my alopecia because I was at a loss( i had gone to a dermatologist for months and gotten injections, to no avail) The dermatologist did blood work but they failed to check my hormone levels( they basically checked my iron levels, just protocol). I also went to a regular doctor and got blood work there and they did not see anything out of the ordinary. My endocrinologist on the other h

and was very thorough and checked everything. They did blood work and found that my hormone levels were imbalanced. I was over-producing testosterone like crazy. I am a female this should not be happening. I had lost most of my hair on my head,  I had gone gluten-free because it has worked for some people. Not for me. SO my endocrinologist put me on dexamethasone( I probably didn't spell that right), spironolactone, and birth control to balance my hormones. I have been taking it for 3 months now, and I am pleased to say that i am growing hair. Slowly but surely. I touch my head and I don't feel baldness anymore. I feel tiny hairs, my face cleared up and I have color in my face that I had never seen before. I feel alive again. I should mention that I still lose hair but not in large clumps like before and my endocrinologist informed from the beginning that I was not going to grow a head full of hair(nor balance my hormones overnight). It is going to take 9 months or so possibly longer. I have dealt with my condition for a year I can wait a year for my hair to grow back. I am a real pro at hiding my hair loss. If anyone would like to know what harm free product I use for my hair or what I do just let me know.

I believe dexamethasone is an oral steriod.  Not good long term

@Stephanie there is a product called Toppik that is great for stray spots, its harmless. I use extensions for the most part because I can strategically place them how I like and it rids me of the pains of wearing a wig. The product is really great for hairlines and blending in
