So a few months ago I wrote a post saying that I was seeing results for my hair loss. I was diagnosed with AA by my dermatologist and my regular doctor a few months after I saw the little patches. This happened December 2013. Soon I lost easily 80 percent of my hair over the months that passed, and I am sure I would have lost more if I hadn't started my meds. As I mentioned before I had gone to my regular doctor and the dermatologist, both whom performed a series of test by drawing blood to rule out any ailments I could possibly have. They both found nothing and said there was nothing they could do. Terrible to hear. So I decided as a last result to go to an endocrinologist, and he performed a series of tests and several more that had not been performed by my dermatologist nor my regular doctor. He too was at a loss...until I recieved my results. Long story short, I had a hormonal imbalance. I was over producing testosterone Which was causing my hair loss. I hAve been on meds since then and I am glad to say that I have my head fully covered in hair with promises of further growth. Thank God. People go to an endocrinologist. Please. Tell them to perform every test they have. You guys have no idea how important it is to have your hormones balanced.

Would it be worth me going to my doc and asking about it

I went to my regular doctor and my dermatologist on different occasions, they both did a series of tests but failed to find anything. I don't blame either since it may be outside of their expertise. That being said, I would recommend that you go to an endocrinologist instead, and ask them to check your hormone levels. Don't lose hope.
