Hello Family!
In the spirit of TallGirl’s excellent blog on the power of the internet in the creation of our home here at Alopecia World; I would like to launch a blog for creative expression. For those of you who are not familiar with haiku, there are many forms, but the basic format is a small poem that comprises of three lines with a specific structure. The first line of a haiku has 5 syllables. The second line has 7 syllables. And the last line has 5 syllables. As you compose your haiku poem, it’s helpful to count out the syl-la-bles (3). There are no haiku snobs here, all poetic expressions are encouraged and welcomed.

I’ll start off with my tribute to the strength I’ve received at AW to live a “Bald Life”.

I move through the day
Unaware of the staring
I’m glad to be free.

Have fun everyone! Peace and Love to you all.

Wow Matt, there is nothing like the love and protection of a daddy. As a parent with alopecia, I recieved great strength from my kids; they encouraged me to take off the wigs. I'm truly inspired by the courage of Mikayla and the immense support that your family shares. Thank you for a touching tribute.

Galena...

Thanks for starting this thread! I've read through all of these and it's really neat how each person looks at things differently, I've laughed and smiled and nodded my head in agreement. :o) Anyway, as my name says, I'm Mikayla's dad. Mikayla has been dealing with AA that went to AT for the past couple of years. I am amazed every day at how strong she is through all of this. MUCH stronger than my wife and I! I've said it many times, how much WE have learned from her and the way she deals with what life throws at her. You guys and gals dealing with this...I wish that WE could show the same strength and confidence that you do, every day of your life!

So here's my contribution...a few things I thought of when I thought about my 13 year old daughter.

Her hair falling out
We cry and we wonder why
She stays positive

She teaches us strength
She lives life to the fullest
WE learn from our child

She stands up so tall
Adversity surrounds her
We can't be more proud

She's so beautiful
On the inside and outside
My baby girl shines

Thanks again for starting this thread, and thanks to everyone for sharing!!

Why should we care
If we have no hair
Although it seems unfair
Does anyone dare
To cause us to despair?
They are nowhere

Thought I was alone
This is now my new, safe home
How much I have grown

All the flowers in
Bloom are sure to make me Swoon
hope he comes home soon

Maybe in the month
of June or after Labor
Day, either way, wait
