Hiya everyone, I'm really beginning to think my AA experience has been triggered by some thing in the environment. I began to lose my hair in Oct 09 during which time my husband began having major skin issues (dermatitis type). He also experienced a bit of what looked like AA through his beard area. My hair completely fell out then regrew. A few months back my hair started falling out again, a lot slower this time but still falling out. Next thing hubby's hair is falling out too. Definate AA look to it.

We headed off to the doctors - AA was confirmed for both of us (yeah we knew that) and basically told "wow, strange you both have it". We wanted to know if there were tests that could be done that may point us in the right direction as to what environmental trigger helped the AA out. Were we both lacking in something or had too much of something. Doctor's answer was "no".

Now we realise that maybe AA is something we both now have to deal with, we can handle that. What we want to look into is environmental triggers. We have three children and if there is something in our environment or diet that could be changed then isn't it worth looking at? I thought having two unrealated people with AA would have sparked some interest in the doctor. We kinda thought he'd be interested in doing blood work to see if something showed up in 'both' tests.

Anyways there's my rant - would love to hear others thoughts or to know if there are any other husband and wife AA teams out there.

Wow that is strange that you both have it. No signs of hairloss with the kids? I would def. say that if they start getting patches too that something environmental is triggering it. I don't suppose your hubby suffered from sympathy pains when you were pregnant/giving birth? At least you have someone close to you that will know what you are dealing with. Take care, keep us posted.

thanks Rosy - been wondering about a derm - or maybe a holistic doctor to look at the 'big' picture.

The doctor not wanting to do blood work reminds me of my doctor being negligent while I was pregnant.
I had all the symptoms of pre-eclampsia except high blood pressure, but was never diagnosed and treated right up until I went in to labour, at which point all the doctors and midwives went in to panic mode!
Some doctors are just lazy I think. But if you want blood work done you shouldn't hesitate to ask for it, or perhaps try a new doctor who takes more interest in your condition?

If i'm not mistaken High Blood pressure is the single most important sign of pre-eclampsia. A very life threating condition!!! Panic mode is not good!!!
Scary....Yikes
