So I have had alopecia areata since I was two. I have always had somewhat of long thin hair with little patches that nobody ever noticed. I decided to get hair extensions last year which pulled out about 40% percent of my hair but not all of it.Last month I had a fight with my best friend and all my hair fell out.I wear a wig now(im only 13)and its really tough. I have never talked to anyone with this disease who is my age and I hope I can meet someone who does:)thanks
Hi, Maddison. I'm 18 and have had alopecia areata for about twelve years (although I'm losing hair in other parts of my body too so I think it might be turning into alopecia universalis..). I started wearing a wig when I was 15 because I lost almost all of my hair, then it grew back so I removed the wig and now I've been wearing a wig for three weeks. I know how you feel, I really wish I knew someone who has alopecia too. I think it would make things a lot easier. Anyway, hang in there :)
Hey Madison, I am sorry you're going through a tough time right now. My Alopecia is new compared to yours but I am terrified and scared already too. I know you're gonna hang in there, and i wish you happier days. Hugs to you, little sister. :-)
Thanks Rhoda I'll try :)
Thanks CMF its been growing back a little bit because I have injections which help a bit so I hope I can take this wig off :)
Thanks Bettty:)
Hi I am 12 almost 13 but unlike you I lost all of my hair when I was 8 just 4 years after being diagnosed the year before I had long thick brown hair then absolutely nothing I have shaved my head about 3 times since then. I am currently "shedding" and I am scared that I will lose all my hair by the time I go into seventh grade I am glad that I know that I am not the only one who is having struggles with their alopecia just remember that everything happens for a reason!!!

ive had it for 3 yrs im 16 now, if u ever need someone to talk to u can msg me :-)
Madison, I know how hard it is. My alopecia began like yours with just some widening parts and thinning hair at about age 14. For many years, I could cover it with extensions (clip in) or putting it up. I had the most severe hairstyle of anyone in college. lol.
Trust me! It will get better. You will become more comfortable. I'm at the point now where I just ask my husband if my bald spots are showing.
I'm much older than you and it has taken me time to come to grips with it and I wish there had been forums like this around when I was growing up.
Today, I just posted my latest alopecia pictures for the world to see for the first time in my life. The're here: http://www.hautecurvywoman.com/32/post/2013/06/my-alopecias-quick-p....
You are more than your hair and I promise you that it will get better. Connect with others your age with alopecia and don't let life pass you by waiting for your hair to grow. There's too much out there!
