Hi everyone,
This is my first time blogging. I just want to thank everyone for their kind comments towards my daughter. I just want to retell a conversation we had earlier regarding her alopecia. Amanda is 7 and has had AA since she was 4. She is never frustrated or disappointed by it. She just knows it has been a part of her life for the past 3 yrs. Well she celebrated her birthday a few days ago and when it came down for her to make a wish before blowing out her candles she didnt wish for her alopecia to go away like she always does. I asked her why she didnt mention it and she said that she wanted to keep her bald spots because she feels special with them. It brought a tear to my eye and I told her she was special no matter what. It just went on to teach me that it all boils down to how you feel about yourself and how you make the most of it. We are happy to have found Alopecia World when we needed it the most. She enjoys looking at everyones pics on their site and now feels good about her own hair. She knows she is not the only one. Thanks for listening.

Tracy and Amanda,
That is a great story. My daughter Hailey, now 8, has the same attitude. She has said that if her hair grew back (she has AA, but shaves her head) then she would just be like everyone else. Good luck, we are happy to have you here!

Hi Tracy! Thank you for sharing your daughter's beautiful story. You must be a very good mother, to have such an insightful young daughter. My daughter was eight when she first got AA. I had read so many stories about kids teasing any kid who wears a headscarf or hat all of the time at school. I was very touched when a large group of girls at school practically guarded my daughter at recess and lunch time. I even heard that those girls wouldn't even let other kids look at my daughter in any different way! The second time around, my daugther is now almost in full remission at age 12. Once she is in full remission, I will send a post to hopefully give others the hope I sought after initially finding this website. My son still has a way to go, to accomplish remission. He just started tackle football camp, and is outgoing as ever. It's hard for me to see him come home from tackle football camp with scratches and bruises. However, maybe his white blood cells will focus on making his scratches and bruises better ~ and leave his hair alone!! We parents of kids with AA must try to have the most positive of thoughts :o)

I want to thank everyone for their kind comments regarding my daughter. It means alot to us especially now since her alopecia has progressed rapidly this month alone. She is losing her self esteem along with her hair. She is making the most of it and I am proud of her. As a parent it hurts so much to see her suffer and being stared at constantly because of this. I know in the long run she will beat this, maybe not the condition but I know in the end she will come out stronger because of it. Thank you again for all your support!
