We humans walk around so consumed by our thoughts and emotions. We often times don't realize how we are presenting ourselves to the world.
As a bald head wearing alopecian I often find people looking at me, when I look back at them they seem very uncomfortable at first. The thing that I have found that helps to ease this situation the most is to flash a "big ole" SMILE at them. This works on all ranges of people children to grumpy old men.
Have you ever noticed that when someone SMILES directly at you it actually takes effort to not smile back at them? Its true, human nature and instinct is to reflect the same emotion back. It is a heck of a lot easier to walk around the SMILING than frowning or as many call it mean muggin'.
Have you ever found yourself SMILING back at a picture of a person smiling; happens all the time. It is true! SMILING does some amazing things for our mental and physical health. It helps us relieve stress, which can lead to a host of health problems. And if that is not enough it can make a BIG difference in someone else's day.
In fact, Mother Teresa's quote “We shall never know all the good that a simple SMILE can do.” reaches probably even further than imagined.
One of my favorite songs is called SMILE, originally composed by Charlie Chaplin but made famous by Nate King Cole years later. Then brought back to life by Micheal Jackson and performed by a host of others throughout the years.
It is a timeless song that will always warm hearts because of the power message it carries. Take a moment and listen, and remember to just SMILE.
Kristie,
I am impressed about your message. I have just realized how important it's to smile. This alopecia-thing has broken me and for years I've been carrying all my emotions on my face. I am still battling with self-image.
Good Morning Nat, I hope you you see this reply and SMILE because I am thinking about you and smiling back!
