My hair has been back two years and have never forgotten how awful it was living with alopecia.

Which is why I'm worrying because all of a sudden I'm getting an intensely itchy scalp followed by a bald patch.

I can handle the odd bald patch but is this the start of another awful period in my life?

My son's AA cycles very quickly (ie: he loses a patch, which spreads into a "strip" which grows back, every few months). He almost always complains about intense itching when he is about to lose it again. Sorry!

Thanks for the post my daughter had all of her bald spots grow back but just complained today of the back of her head itching.

I always have itching, whether my AA is acting up or not. The Rogain and steriod topical both have alcohol which dries it out. In fact since my diagnosis my scalp and face always seem dry. The worst thing is when your whole head tingles, sometimes described like a swarm of bees on your head. When that happened all my hair fell out in a matter of 2 weeks. Only happened once, in the 3 years I have had AA. Thought nothing of it until my dermatologist asked if I had that swarm effect. He said it was very typical of AA. On the plus side I respond to treatment really well. I am completely hairless except for my head. My head is responding well to the monthly shots.

Mine isn't severe at the moment and hopefully the FFA will runs it's course but it still has had a massive impact on my life confidence esteem etc so I'm with you all on that one x

Shots are cortisone steriod (kenalog name brand). I get about 20 shots in my scalp monthly, just under the skin and sometimes in my eyebrows when they start disappearing. Shots on top of my head don't hurt much but the back of my head and eyebrows sure does. Doctor puts a numbing agent in but that only works when you need a lot of shots in the same area.

I had steroid injected in my brow area as I haven't had eyebrows for years and made no difference . I've also list hair on part of my arms and legs along with forehead hairline which I was told won't grow back. I wish I could stop the loss where it is which is at a point I can still hide it.

Shots take about 3 weeks to work. You might think they are not working then by week 3 you see some new tiny hairs, week 4 a lot of new hairs. Sometimes they are the opaque/white AA hairs. Those white hairs usually turn back to my natural color in 1-2 weeks. Not everyone responds to the shots like I do, I am lucky in that way.
