Well I went shopping with my daughter the other day and all was well until....wait for it....a teenager laughed at me when I passed. I tried to ignore it and brush it off. Deep down inside it hurts and still does. So, since then I have been wearing a wig or covering up. Today, I put on my scarf and my daughter said why are you wearing that? Of course I came up with some lame excuse, but she lovingly said, you look better wearing nothing.

Just wanted to share with everyone, I'm still a little down but I must lift my head up and go forward. We cannot allow ignorance to dictate our journey with Alopecia.

Amen, Angela! Do not allow some teenager who most likely is insecured about themselves to get you down. You have to do what makes you comfortable and not what makes every one else comfortable. If you have reached that point in your life where you want to go without a wig...Do it and do not allow a stranger to make you feel uncomfortable.

Remember you control your life, not Alopecia. Stay positive, move forward, & live your best life.

I know exactly how you feel! I have quite a bit of hair left on my head but I do have a large patch missing on the underside of my hair. My hair is very very long and recently I was at a concert and it was very hot outside so I put my hair up not thinking and someone had the nerve to say ha well only real women and real men can grow hair. I really wanted to respond with go play in traffic :)

So sorry this happened, Angela. I know it takes enough courage and self-confidence to go out without having someone or something chip away at it. I am learning that this is a process. It’s been almost two months since I shaved my head. I felt really good about it and then I experienced this period of mourning.

I just want to remind you that it was your courage and strength that brought me here. If it weren’t for you sharing your story, I’d still be suffering. So glad to hear you’re not going to let anything try to steal your joy! Just continue to be your beautiful, bold self! Hugs!

Thanks everyone, I so love this site, so much love from everyone! I picked myself up and started back not wearing any covering. I received several compliments, one a stranger said Oh my Gosh, I really love your haircut it is so beautiful. Today at church, my first time going without my wig and everyone loved my head. Later, I was invited to one of my co-workers home for a cook out, I went with no covering. No one was shocked or appeared shocked and one lady said I wish I could wear my hair like you, it is beautiful on you. God is so awesome, I know he placed these people in my path this weekend to lift my spirits and it worked! Amen!!!

God only created so many beautiful heads, the rest he covered with hair. You are blessed Angela to be one of the beautiful few.

Hi Angela, sorry to hear about your mishap. I know exactly how you felt, I have been there many times. However, I always look at it as that persons issue. Don't let someone else's insecurity rain on your parade. Wear your baldness proudly.

Hi, I just want to say how wonderful it is that you all support each other. What a blessing. I am struggling with alopecia. Haven't made the transition to a wig, or shaving the rest of my hair off. I'm experimenting with the wigs. Some people say, just put the wig on like it is nothing. People who do not have the problem don't understand the emotional termoil a person goes through. Just knowing there are people out there gaining wisdom through their experiences; is very comforting.
