Just added some music from my band
Some of you have read my descriptions of going to a Balkan music and dance camp, or seen photos on my page of me drumming with bands. If you'd like to hear what the music is like, I just put up 4 tracks from one of the two bands I play with, "Dromia", on my profile page. This is all traditional dance music, some of it in uneven rhythms.
The first (Kalamatiano) is from Greece. I'm playing doumbek (goblet-shaped hand drum). This is in 7/8.
The second (Coceks) is from Albania. I'm also playing doumbek on this one. This is a syncopated 2/4.
The third (Agir Halay) is from Turkey. I have a brief drum solo intro, on frame drum. This is in 10/8.
The fourth (Berance) is from Albania. I'm playing two different drums on this one - a frame drum with jingles on the first tune, then a large drum with two sticks on the second. My FAVORITE rhythm - this is 12/8.

Great stuff, Mary! I'm so impressed with your drum playing. The solo is fantastic. I have a friend who is also into drumming. She doesn't have a band and she's not as accomplished as you are, but it's great to listen to her when I can. Thanks for posting.

Thanks...I can't imagine how this music sounds to people who aren't used to it. I've been dancing to this music for 39 years, and drumming it for about 25. Here's a video from a gig I did in 2008, in this one you can see some of the dancing. There are some more from the same night on my YT channel:
