My older brother and I were both blessed with very thick hair and cursed with AA. (Ok so it doesnt always feel like a curse but today it does!)
I've had it 10 years (most active the last 5) and his just started this year, and I'm curious does Alopecia affect more people with thick or thin hair Or am I just over tired and thinking too much lol

I had thin hair as a child when AA started to affect me. As to whom it affects more, I have no clue if any research has been done but I haven't noticed either way. Some of my group members had thick hair, some had thin, some were blonde, other brunettes, etc. Research suggests that the link may be more genetic than previously assumed so there must be something we can't see or don't know about that is different in those susceptable to being diagnosed with alopecia. Hope that helps.

Unfortunately AA does not recognize the thickness of hair, the colour of hair a person has, the look of a person, the wealth of a person, age or gender of a person...in fact AA does not even recognize species...monkeys, apes, dogs and horses can have AA too eventhough it is not commonly reported.

hang in there, you're not alone :). Look forward to read more about your stories...Have a blessed day.

God bless.

Wow thanks for all the comments, I didn't know that animals could be affected too, then again like I said my brother has it and most days I'm sure he is part ape! lol
Maybe and this is just a thought (yes I have many)Maybe alopecia is trying to teach us that we are all the same, skin color, bank balance, age, religion none of that matters to Alopecia so why should it matter to us.
Like I said just a thought!

My hair was so thick before I developed female pattern baldness...I had enough hair to make like 10 wigs for myself now. It used to take me 45 minutes to comb it after the shower, 5 hours for it to dry completely, and most large-sized scrunchies could barely wrap around it twice for a pony tail. It was a bush of thick, curly/wavy blonde hair. At the time I hated it and wished my hair was thinner, and now that it is, I kind of wish it was thick again. It's funny the way life works like that. But now I get to wear pretty wigs, which I also always wished I could do, so there's an upside!

We had a cat with it. 20/20 hindsight, that is. He was patchy, but a better cat you wouldn't find. His name was Mac. It suited him :-)

At least your toughts are reasonable unlike mine which sometimes speculate the notion that we are either the next evolution of human kind or that we are clones of or decendants of aliens. LOL
NAAF has a lot of good information on past, present and future research on alopecia which I thing they post on their website or have a link. Alopecia teaches us something that I wish everyone would learn!

Carol: Trust me my thoughts can be quite strange at times I just try and remember to share the ones that wont get me into trouble.......online anyway ;) LOL
Before my latest patches I had said it would be easier to just shave my head than to deal with cuts color etc ! God has a wicked sense of humor sometimes! :)
