Hello all:

I have AA and yet I know very little about the ins and outs........ so to speak.
I lose patches very randomly used to be fall and spring but now I never know.
My brother also has been diagnosed with AA as of last year.
He was very lucky to have his patches ( head and beard) fill back in after approx 6mos.
But now he is losing it again and now is also losing on his legs and hands.
Is this normal for AA or could it be becoming AU.
Any advice or info is very welcome.

Thanks,
Dawn :)

Hi Dawn,

It is very difficult to predict whether or not AA will turn into AU. I had AA for 7 years before it turned into AT. Within a few months, I was AU. I have found that it is not worth it to worry too much, because whatever is going to happen will happen. Let me know if you have any other questions :)

Hi Dawn. My name is Mark. I started with AA like I think just about everyone does. From there on one never knows. My AA started when I was about 8. It all started to fall out when I was about 13 and all fell out, facial hair and body hair included when I was about 15. That was 38-39 years ago. I will be 54 on Feb 18th. I have always been torn between how this condition, being shuned by others, such as women, has ruined my social life, and or by my own doing, as far as being too inhibited over the years because of this condition, and not approaching more women. To this day I have never had a girl friend or a relationship. This condition can be devistating because you never know how bad it will get. And because it is often mistaken for other illness's and misunderstood. I guess you just have to live your life as full as you can and focus most of your attention on those who matter to you. later, Mark.
