Can I ask you how much the systems cost once you turn 18 and want to continue using them?

Hi, I can share with you my experience with both.. When Sam was losing her hair last fall I contacted Locks of Love and I found the whole process very stressful as a parent dealing with their child's hairloss. Basically, they give free hair custom hair pieces to children whose families are in a financial hardship. They require a doctors letter and 2 letters of reference and a copy of your tax return. Needless to say, I found it emotionally draining. They will give you a temp hair replacement and then it takes 6 months to get a human hair replacement and they told me she would have to be completely bald to make the mold. My husband I decided to go through the process and we did not qualify for a free hair piece, but they gave me a dollar amount that I was going to have to pay. For what it cost an for the length of time it would take to get we decided not to bother. I ended up buying her a wig that was not custom last winter because we suddenly needed it today. Then in April 08 I found out about the kids club. The process is easy and stress free. They did not require anything other then a signed form from a doctor and a birth certificate. They ask for the doctors signature because of the tape used. NO questions were asked and they make a hair replacement free based on your childs needs. They give 3 free replacements a year and 8 free services. The hair is nice and you can even have it glued on if your child is older and you choose. This service is available age 6-17. After that I think it is a pricey. Sam likes them and says it is comfortable. I was not all that happy with the 2nd one she just received, but loved the first one. O I don't like if for my own picky reasons. However, this time because she has hair we were able to readjust the color. However, the color they did was a based on pictures and they did do a good job of matching a color from a picture. They will tell you it comes in in 8--10 weeks, but my experience has been more like 12-14. They are very easy to care for, we wash it once a week or sometimes longer. She has swam in it with a cap over it for extra security. Considering the expense of a wig this is a good product to start with, especially for a young child who keeps growing. Sam does a lot of sports too and it has never come off and you can sleep in it if you wanted to. We take hers off daily, but I do know a girl who has tape that last 3 days at a time. Hope this info helps..Cindy

What kind of system? Is it one that stays on 24/7. I have heard alot of mixed things about it. That is why I'm so undecided, please let me know how that works for your daughter. That's great that they help you with the cost, because the program I looked into is very expensive.

I agree with Chelsea, the Hair Club for Men has made this entire process wonderful. The people are so kind and you can tell that they are going to do whatever they can to make you feel better. Maygen wore to the Hair Club her hair piece that I had bought at Sally's and sewn into a stretch head band. They were very impressed with my innovation. LOL. Maygen ended up being alergic to the tape, however she was fine with the glue. She is so excited about her new piece.....it won't come in for another 7 weeks or more. Her stylist is a Dallas Maverics dancer. She is thrilled about that, as is her brother and father! :-)

Our experiencew with Hair Club has not been good. The first system lasted one month. They seemed shocked that hair fell out (the size of a softball). It was like going through alopecia all over. So, then they ordered another, but wouldn't give it to us until 3 months later (when we were due to get one). It too has losts lots of hair and has now come off (after one month). They will not glue it back on because we are not due for service for another month. Very frustrating. They also will not schedule my daughter's appointments after school because they reserve those times "for their clients".

My granddaughter got her first "system" from HCFK in January and she is happy. She had a wig from an organization called Wigs for Kids which was nice and a bit easier to manage, but they do not replace them. We've found that for an active 9 yr old, wigs or systems only last a few months. HCFK in Atlanta is absolutely fabulous. They are so kind, caring, and sensitive. We are truly blessed.
