Look what the postman brought me today

This is my new hair this morning. It's a synthetic top piece, whereas my one before was human hair and cost £400. his one has more shape. I'm a little concerned though as the front layers are really "choppy" and i can't straighten it as its not heat resistant - will they flatter over time? Also my boyfriend commented that it's really shiny - does this also fade?

I need to move one of the clips as at the mo it sits on my big patch so has nothing to clip to.

Opinions welcomed!

I agree with Rachel I think you look great. I think the wigs lay better after the first washing. Also I think most people think that we just have really shiny hair - I have had people ask me what type of shampoo I use. Also I have noticed that the type of shampoo and conditioner you use makes a difference in how the wig looks and feels. I like the shampoo and conditioner by Raquel Welsh which I buy at a local wig store. If you decide to get it cut make sure you go to someone who is comfortable in cutting wigs.

I think it looks good the way it is, but if you wanted to you could get it layered at the hairdresser. Synthetics do lose the shine after a while.

It's annoying me already. I think you can still see my patch at the back. It's ok if I'm sitting still but if there was a slight breeze I'd feel on edge. I think I need to re dye my own hair so the edges match up and maybe have my own hair a bit choppy round the bottom. Seems like so much hassle....

I like the way the wig looks on you. My synthetics are always dull and I have to buy hair spray to keep it from getting tangled. I hope everything works out the way you want it! It's hard to find a good wig at a reasonable price.

You could put theatrical makeup over your bald patch so it will be dark coloured like your wig. We bought some the other day from a $2 shop. Also remember you are your own worse critic, no-one else will be studying your hair/wig as you will. Also I think your idea of making your own hair choppy around the bottom is a good one if that would make you feel more comfortable. A hairdresser will be able to steer you in the right direction.

Can I ask what website you purchased this from? It looks wonderful....I have been trying to purchase my first wig online and I am so nervous to order and have something horrible arrive in the mail and it be a big waste of time.

I am a hair replacement stylist. The shine doesnt usually go away quickly but i think its pretty.

because you have a synthetic piece it may frizz at the back of your neck. You can bring it to a salon that does that in your area or do it your self but you can usually buy the magnetic rollers from a beauty supply store and get a clothing steamer the hand held kind and steam out frizz. if i get really fed up with the synthetic ones i cut them shorter and curl them under

feel free to write me if you need some tips i make wigs that what i do i can tell some things to try. I love synthetic because you dont have to style them less bad hair days
to answer your question you look beautiful!!!!!!!

Hi Rachel...first...I think you look great! It seems that any change in our own hair seems magnified to us...and other people barely notice...they know something is different, but not quite sure what it is.

I started with a clip on at first too...and now have a synthetic wig. I got it to match my color and length, but the layers all kept curling forward...and I wanted them to curl back!! It made me very frustrated to have it be ALMOST exactly the way I wanted it and I was constantly messing with my hair. Because it was longer, it also got frizzy at the bottom...its a given.
One day I was reading through all the old discussions ...because I am fairly new to all of this, and read a post by JeezLouise on how to defrizz a synthetic wig...she posted a link to a page she made with a demo. Its one of the best things I've learned from this site! I tested it on a tiny underneath part first, and was amazed ...it became soft and smooth! Now everytime I wash my wig...I get rid of the frizz and make the curls go the direction that I want....I'm pretty sure you could use that same technique to straighten yours exactly the way you want too! ~ Linda
