I am the mother of a beatiful, outgoing and amazing nine year boy who was born with alopecia. I have spent hours upon hours and traveled the country seeing specialist to learn how unique his situaiton truly is (only to become more frustrated). I have been told that it may be genetic, he was born bald and his hair only grows to that of the newborn stage (Anagen Stage). His hair is extremly fine and very blond, almost white, the very little that he has that is. It never grows more then the length of my pinky nail (if that) and it comes right out. It is possible that it may be genetic or truly alopecia. I have been told that it could possibly be a form of the genetic disorder, Ectodermal Dyplacia, however he only has one of the symptons..no head hair. I can't help to wonder if it may be something else. We had his thyroid tested several times and blood work tests done...he is perfectly fine other then the absence of head hair. He has mild ecezma also. I would love to find others that are dealing with a similar situation to see what, if anything, they were able to learn. I have to admit (even though I realize this is very doubtful) that I still have hopes that when he reaches purbity, that by a miracle it may grow. Any input anyone can provide would be appreciated!
