Just wondering if anyone else was a disappointed as I was when I got this issue. One of the headlines was "When the one thing getting thinner is your hair". I thought finally there will be an artical to explain our situation. But when I read the one page artical I was stunned to see most of the page was advertisments for Minoxidil, finasterdie lasers and hair transplants!!! In the first paragragh they state"80% of the time regrowth is possible" they never even mention totalis or areata, they talk about stress ,hormones, dietary deficeincys and medications and thyroid. Oh and african americans its central centrifugal cicatricial alopecia? Yes we all know that but what about the rest of us who have lived with this and will continue to live with this, there was no mention of any support groups or products to help us live with this. I think I'll cancel my subscription!!! Maybe our site creators should let OPRAH know we don't appreciate being left out and our stiuation being used for headlines. Former oprah lover !!!!!!!!!!!

It's frustrating, and I've written to Oprah for a couple of years asking her to do something on AA...but I agree with Susan. Let's ALL write very nice letters as Susan suggests....maybe send some video links or mention Alopecia World and how it was started.

Susan is right ,but as you all know this site is here so we can speak how we feel and thats what I've done. I wouldn't have written anything to the mag because I know what their after ,headlines . My frustration is with my condition and the lack of knowledge in the world!!!!! When I'm in public everyone thinks I have cancer when I say I have alopecia it seems like theres always someone that says oh my friend, sister or cousin has it so there are people that know of it but noone associates it with complete baldness. I just really sick of people asking "will your hair grow back ", WE HAVE NO IDEA !!! They just don't know the facts and I feel the mag gave the wrong information,if the right information is given it educates everyone. Thanks for all the replys and help in seeing from other points of veiw I'm always open to new info

Linda, I get questions every day! Out and about with my kids and that's actually how I found AW someone at Target asked me...I do usually get the "I looked like you a year ago" or "wish I could do that...shave it" but sometimes, when I have patience, I say "Me? I have Alopecia, it's hair loss. Are you a survivor? I'm so glad you're still with us." or "You should shave it, it's so low matainance! But I've never shaved my hair...I have Alopecia, it's hair loss." You wouldn't believe the wonderful people I've met and seen again later to find out I encouraged them in some way. One lady came up to me and said I seemed so brave to be bald and wear my sunglasses on top of my head that when she lost her hair to radiation treatments she put some sun glasses up there and walked about with confidence for a whole year. I just think its up to us to approach each conversation with a teacher attitude and it's up to us to educate, ya know? I step out each day to see where God leads me in realtionships with those who stare and those who ask if they dare.
