My husband and I went to Target for some household essentials. I happened to meet him over in the men's section where he was trying on pants. I saw a few caps that were very unisex looking, thought I might try them on and pick one or two up for the summer. Funky looking little caps, right up my alley. I was wearing a Buff. Of course, in order to try the cap I needed to remove my buff. I walked over to the full length mirror about 5 feet from where my husband was. I removed my buff put on cap #1. Looked great. I yelled over to my husband "how's it look?" His response was "very hip, you should buy it". While I removed cap #1 to try cap #2, I saw a young woman in the mirror in the background with an aghast look on her face, like she'd just seen an alien. As if I should not have shown my head at all. I thought she was going to pass out.

I broke out in hysterical laughter. Not a lot of difference between a bald female and a bald male. One is accepted in society, no questions asked, the other isn't. How stupid.

I enjoyed EVERY MINUTE OF IT.

The only reason my head was covered was because it was cold outside today. Come summer, this alopecian will rock my Royal Baldness.

Love yourselves; Dig your "selves".

Lili

P.S.: Purchased 3 caps!

Good for you, I've had people laugh right in my face but I don't shy away I just look them in the eye and see if they have anything else to add. Why do bald women have to be treated so differently?

Susan, I think they're fearful; they look at us and wonder, "if that ever happened to me, whatever would I do?" They miss the point. I laughed out loud and hard; it was CLASSIC.

They do miss the point Eulalia because they will never feel the warmth of the sun, the cool breezes or the rain like we do on our beautiful bald heads. I think you've never looked better and I feel that way about myself too. I was so sad trying to hang on to what hair I had left and I felt so up lifted once it was gone.

Susan recently a friend of mine commented that he loved my baldness and told me he used to shave his head. He said to me "you'll love it in the summertime; its like driving with the top down....." I loved it.

Looks god, feels good. So with these positive benefits of NOT having hair, why I wonder don't the majority go for the bald look?

If you imagine a scenario in which society as a whole went bald, and try to think of reasons for and against growing hair, there are more cons than pros. David Bowie put it well in Life on Mars "Look at those cavement go".

You have to grow a set in order to face the world that first time as a bald woman, it's not easy. I've had to take some deep breaths and just go in head first (pun intended) like the first time I went to work and sat in on a staff meeting, facing 60 odd people all at once it's scary. But it's all good, I get so many positive comments why would I want to go back to having hair, I'm, we're unique!
