Performed bald for the first time last night!

I'm a drummer with a couple of Balkan bands and since losing my hair, I've worn one of my Turkish scarves while performing (as shown on YouTube videos - search for "Dromia stoynoff"). Though I've gone folk dancing bald, I've never gotten up on a stage and performed without my scarf since I lost my hair. I just haven't been ready to be up in front of people on a stage, bald.

Last night I did it! It was warm, and I was working hard drumming with some visiting musicians, so I took off the scarf at the beginning and stayed that way the rest of the two-hour performance. I had explained to the other musicians about my hair loss before we began, so they would know what's going on.

Ironically, the last time I played with these same musicians was on January 26, 2008, only 3 days before I shaved my remaining hair off. At that time, I was wearing a scarf to cover the large bald spots. Now I'm free and unashamed. It's a great feeling.

Congratulations Mary!! I am so proud of you. Once you overcome it, it IS an awesome feeling, almost indescribable!

If being "fully transitioned" means not giving a flying #@% what other people think about my bald head, then I am. ( ;-)

I still wish I had my hair, but I'm actually proud of the distinctive way I look. You're right, Salmezan, it IS an awesome feeling.

Bottom line for me: THIS is who I am now, and I have a life to live.

Hi everyone,

I just posted some photos showing me in all my bald glory, drumming for the dance on June 6. You can see them on my Profile page. Thanks for all your kind words and support!
