I thought that it was about time that I updated my regrowth blog. I'm really happy to say that the regrowth of hair on my head has been pretty impressive. I've gone from having 20+ patches to them all filling in. Some have still to thicken up a bit.

This is the patch on the back of my head near my crown.

This is the first patch which appeared a year ago. Strangely, it has been the slowest to fill in. It is still filled with mainly white hairs (they don't show up on the pictures but are quite long now) but a few of them have been darkening up.

Despite this improvement, alopecia (or the potential threat of it!) still gets me down so part of the reason for this blog is to make myself feel a bit more positive. I'm still in the danger zone as there is a pinky looking/itchy patch starting on the back of my head so I'm hoping that it doesn't develop into anything major, plus hairloss on my beard continues. I need to keep reminding myself of the improvement in just a few months. I am very grateful for that.

I hope this gives you some hope too. We will beat this!

DO you have patches on your beard? I do and they suck!

Thanks for sharing! I'm so happy for you! The back of the head is the hardest part to grow back. I have that pattern too. Mine is coming in very slowly. Are you on any treatments at all? I pray that you keep all of your growth and never have this happen again!! Thanks again for sharing!! Melissa

@ Ernesto Yes, and I totally agree that they suck big time. I never had a heavy growth so I would never have grown a beard or a moustache and I try to tell myself that the hairloss there doesn't bother me but, in truth, it does. It's just a reminder that AA is still active in my system.

@Melissa Thanks so much. I've done so many things to try to get my hair back that I couldn't give a definitive answer as to what worked. I was getting heat treatments and massages from a trichologist on a weekly basis, using steroid cream and foam, taking herbs and vitamins to help my hair, trying a couple of products that a hairdresser recommended, seeing a homeopath, hypnotherapy, reflexology... the list goes on. Desperation had definitely taken over.

Melissa - I just found your blog asking about Aminexil. This was one of the products recommended to me by a hairdresser and I have been using it for about 3 months now. It's quite expensive though and I can't say if it definitely helped but I think it did - I don't want to give it up for now just in case. I've left a longer reply on your blog.

Robert!!! First time checking blogs in a while, but boy am I glad I did. The pics look fantastic! I'm really happy for you that your hair is coming in as well as it is. Funny that you mention your oldest spot is taking the longest to fill it completely. It's a little like that with me too. The big collection of spots on my crown is the oldest (I think), and though there's a LOT of dark hair in there and it's much easier to cover up, there's still some sparse areas in there that I thought would have filled in by now. All that said, I can't complain at all if I remember how bad it was just a month or two ago. I'm REALLY REALLY happy for you Robert!!! Please do what you can to be happy for yourself too and give yourself a break. You definitely deserve it for persevering through all this. Take care my friend!
