This afternoon I went to school to pick my daughter up a little earlier than usual. I was giving a talk on alopecia to her class (6 year olds). I was a bit nervous but I explained about what it is and and why I wore lots of different wigs. We also discussed bullying and how it's okay to be be different. All in all I'm really pleased with how it went. I've come soo far in my confidence since I opened up about it on facebook in July. It's been a bit nerve wracking at times but I'm glad I've done it. By being open ve put the control back in my hands.

Congratulations. I have wondered about talking to my kids' classes and feel like I have let the opportunities pass. My oldest is now 9, and the social world is getting more complicated for him. I have wild thoughts of taking the stage on "crazy hair day" and speaking to the entire school. The kids get a lot of support and discussion about being kind and accepting differences (which certainly didn't happen when I was in school), but I think a concrete example might have impact. One of those children you talked to may someday lose hair or know someone with alopecia, and, thanks to you, they may feel empowered or moved to be kind.

that is awsome!!! I am so proud of you!! personally I am not ready to do that!! my daughter is shy when i don't use a wig...so i prefer not to talk about it in public.

Thanks everyone. I was nervous but I'm soo glad I did it. My daughter was a little shy but I did it so her friends would understand and stick up for her if needed. Since July I've been on a confidence journey and my life has changed soo much for the better. I used to be ashamed of myself and now thanks to the support of friends and on here I feel ready to take on the world!
