I tried to find more information online about the Sox21 gene that scientists discovered but the most I could find was that the research had ended and they were not going to continue studies on it. There are apparently several genes besides this one that could potentially be related to hairloss so we may still have a long way to go before finding an actual cure or at least preventing alopecia in our offspring. I did find it interesting however that the mice who lost their hair had incresed or larger oil glands and thickened skin cells. The oil glands especially seing as humans gained the ability to sweat many long years ago when we became less hairy. Perhaps the theory of this being evolutionary isn't that far fetched.
