I accidentally fell asleep in my wig once (Sunday afternoon nap, you know). I don't attach my wig with anything but if I did it would have been really painful because the wig was rotated on my head. Generally it's not recommended as bare minimum it will cause the wig to mat but more likely it will make the wig shed from the rubbing. Of course, if you wanna buy a new wig every couple months that might be the way to go.

Whatever makes you the most comfortable, emotionally and physically. If someone wants to sleep in a wig...I support their choice.

Personally, I can't imagine sleeping in a wig. If warmth is needed, I wear a soft sleep cap. Even for the year I was trying to wear a wig in public, I never wore one to bed. Aimee is right, along with the feel of water on my head in the shower or in a swimming pool, the feel of a bald head on the pillow is one of the pleasures of not having hair.

The other thing I remember about my synthetic wig is that they fray or start to look frizzy if they rub against your collar. I would think that sleeping in it would hasten that deterioration.

Good luck.

Thank you friends, for sharing your experiences. i m new to alopecia and wigs so don't know much about it. i had a custome made half wig that i stick to the top portion of my head and i sleep in it. but now i m finding that i m loosing almost all my hair and have to wear full wig.
Gillian, its encouraging to know that you sleep in your wig and it lasts about 6 months. It would be helpful if you would share about the brand you use. do you use tape or glue?
thankyou guys...............

For real hair wigs, silk pillow cases help protect the hair. I don't know if that goes for synthetic.

When I had wigs that I taped on I always slept in them. I would leave them on for about 5 days because I was to lazy to tape them everyday. I found a fantastic tape that would keep the bond that long and still be really easy to peel off the wig without hurting it. My wigs have all lasted at least a year without having additional hair added to them.

I hope that helps!

Hello Stephanie,
your information was very helpful. Thank you. One more question I would like to ask. Did you use the wigs that are diaplayed in online websites, like revlon and all? or did you wear custom wigs? I have a revlon wig, will this type pf wig last that long too? I am really excited.............if it would i would be delighted.
you look cute with and without wigs............i especially like the beautiful painting u have done on ur head.
thanks for sharing your experience...............
thank you everyone.
