So...my hair has started to grow back after 16+ years with no hair growth

I am 42 years old. Since last October I have been gluten free. I have decided to also try to go organic and no fast foods, no artificial this or that (for the most part). I have also decided to make a choice to just eat healthy. As a side effect or perhaps result of my efforts and food choices...my hair has started to grow everywhere. Its been a month since i had also started the Probiotics in my diet. I noticed fine little hairs all over my head and in my eyebrows, about 1/8" long. My fingernails are even growing at a rapid pace and staying strong. I guess it does pay off to eat healthy, in more ways than one. With all the things are done to our food to make it bigger, better, more colorful...its no surprise the damage it can do to our bodies in the long term.

I spent two weeks with my brother, in beautiful Polson, Montana. There he eats nothing but healthy food. It was nice. I felt good, not only with the beautiful place for meditation, but not putting junk in my body or even missing it.

I added probiotics to my diet recently as I heard there is a connection with how our stomach works and makes our body react to the different foods we absorb through our stomach. I drink probiotics daily in the form of Kefir, Kombucha, or KeVita, plus I take an amazing vitamin supplement called Vitamin Code for Women by Garden of Life. I often eat Aspargus as little meals too.

I am not completely sure what exactly triggered my hair growth, but I will keep you posted. I don't know if it will keep growing or stay, but one can never be too sure. It would be nice. But overall eating healthy, I feel so much better. More energy and overall well feeling just feels nice.

Here are some pictures of the items I use...

Thank you for sharing! I have also gone gluten free and am taking probiotics. I eat as much organic food as I can plus I try to eat super healthy. It's very early still and I haven't noticed any improvement yet, but stories such as yours, keep my hopes up. Thanks again!

Taking care of ourselves never comes back empty, whether you grow the hair back or not you know that you are doing good to your body.

How does it feel to be growing hair back after 16 years!?

Yes it does feel good Cheryl, but still a bit apprehensive. Once its thicker and darker, I will feel more like its actually a real thing happening. I love seeing the fuzzies all over my head. Overall, I feel better too. I also wanted to add that I also found another great product I use instead of soy sauce called Liquid Aminos by Bragg Live Foods. Another great supplement.

I will keep you posted and Good Luck to you too Johanna. Cheers to a healthier overall life too...you will feel better. How long have you been gluten free Johanna?

I've been gluten free for approximately 3 weeks now. It's nothing, I know, and am not expecting any miracles just yet :) If it took you about 10 months to start regrowing hair, mine should have started to regrow by next summer, right?! ;)

I never ate super unhealthy (no artificial sweeteners etc., fast food only once or twice a month etc.) but I've definitely started to pay much more attention to what I, and the rest of the family, eat. (I used to eat a lot of e.g. pasta and chocolate.) More organic, more salmon and other fish, salads, healthy soups etc. Not only do I benefit from this change of diet, so does my family.

I believe in our bodies' ability to heal themselves if we only treat them well, That's exactly what I_ plan to do from now on.

Hi Robin,

Great news about your recent hair growth :)

I tend not to comment on blogs like this, but will in this case as I can relate to your story :)

In February this year, I cut out all gluten & dairy from my diet. I also eliminated beans & legumes, oats, processed food of ALL kinds. I make everything myself including sauces, stock/broth, and deserts. I drink soy instead of milk.

I've never called it a 'diet' because this is my way of life now. I had to completly change what I deemed as 'breakfast' meals etc, and find now that I eat whatever I want, for any meal of the day. I eat a huge range of vegetables (except for potatoes), fruits & meats. I never go hungry, and I don't go without. I think outside the square to be able to satisfy my cravings :)

My energy levels have sky rocketed & I feel fantastic. My exzema has cleared, and to top it off, the majority of my head is now covered in thick, dark hair :) It's the most amazing transformation! I still shave it to keep it tidy, but I can't keep up with how fast it grows! The few patches that aren't covered in dark hair are covered in fine fuzz instead. It's a slow process, but it's worth the wait. And defintly worth cutting those food groups out :)

All the best,

Holly x

I don't want to give high hopes, but to me, it makes perfect sense to just eat as natural as possible without the interference of man-made or processed foods or pesticides. And the side effects, well...for us are wonderful. I am so glad to hear of your journey Holly, that is wonderful. The perks are feeling better and the transformation of our bodies in general. My nails are no longer brittle and are growing at a rate that I have to get them manicured often. Best wishes to you Holly! I hope we can see some pictures of your progress and see some menus of what you might eat day to day...its nice to see and learn from others going down the same path.

Good for you too Johanna! I think if we overall teach ourselves and then share it with our children and pass it on, life can be much better overall, in a health sense - it truly does make sense to eat well. I mean if i put junk in my body daily, what do i think is going to happen to me? I am being unrealistic if I think I can keep going on junk and function. Whole, organic, natural, clean foods are the way to go. There are so many options for us too. Gluten free is good as well, plus I too have been thinking of going dairy free, as there is not much need for the dairy and other resources for calcium that are SO much better for us. I love all my energy and the difference I see in me with my hair growth and overall well-being.

I hope to hear more stories from everyone. I am still only seeing the fine fuzzies all over my head and eyebrows starting to come in more, still all the fine blond though. Its exciting..if anything, I just feel better.

Best wishes to all of you on your journey's.

Robin :)
