Customer: Oh my gosh, you're so beautiful.
Me: Oh, thanks
Customer: But why aren't you wearing a wig?
Me: Umm what?
Customer: It's really deterring from your beauty. You could be truly beautiful if you wore a wig.
Me: I'm completely comfortable with who I am and don't feel the need to hide it by wearing a wig, thanks.
Customer: Oh you're just being stubborn.
Me: No, actually I've been bald since I was two years old and I like myself the way I am.
Customer: But just imagine. If you had long blonde hair you could be a model.
Me: I don't need hair to be a model.
Customer: You need to think about your future. Models make a lot of money you know. Will you just think about wearing a wig?
Me: Not a chance.
Customer: It really is such a shame..
Me: Great. Awesome. Thanks for your input.
Customer: Just think about it.
Me: No. *walks away*
Who the hell does she think she is? She doesn't even know me. Honestly, the nerve of some people.
Oh wow! I can't believe this woman. Wow.
I agree, I have embraced my alopecia and if anyone else has an issue with it that's there issue. As if my hairstyle or lack of make has anything to do with it. Great for speaking up. To bad most people wont get it, "it really is such a shame" clueless.
I am so, so , so proud of you!!! You are gorgeous!! Some people just want everybody cut from the cookie cutter- never fall for that! I LOVE what Tom Hobb^ said!
just goes to show u that some people could NEVER get out of the box. I mean to them everyone has to have hair to be beautiful? For a person like that, everything is black and white and your beauty just couldn't fit to them because you were beautiful but- ack!- no hair? I agree with all those above- good job 2 U. I just hope that person goes home and is haunted by the juxtaposition of both bald and beautiful. Just think: you might have accidentally opened their eyes. I hope they can't get it out of their mind and it ends up changing their whole life. :0)
wow!! some people just do not think. lol!!! you should have said, hey if you just closed that mouth of yours think how nice you'd be.
You rock!
I was really put off by this customer at first, but after thinking about I suspect they really did mean well and were trying to pay a complement. They just suffer from being insensitive and narrow minded.
The idea they're putting forth though, that you need to wear a wig in order to be beautiful, is really toxic to self esteem, and it's totally untrue. I did a bit of noodling around in Google to verify my supposition that there are indeed bald models, and I came across an interesting page:

Bald is indeed beautiful.
Go YOU! You do look beautiful. You can be a model without the use of wigs. This is something I teach my students all the time. It's not what's on your head its what's in it! Thanks for sharing your story.
