I am a member of many organizations and sit on the board of several non-profits in my community. I am taking the time at each meeting to discuss my...well...baldness. Everyone loves my wig, and so comments are always made about my "great new hair." That's the perfect time to mention that while it IS my hair (bought and paid for, thank you very much) it isn't exactly MY hair in the true sense of the phrase.

I explain what alopecia is, what little is known about its origins, treatments and outcomes. Then I say that I love my new wig, and have others on the way, but when it warms up don't be suprised to see me "naked" (LOL) because I modestly think I look pretty smashing with MY new do...or do not, as the case may be.

Anyway, everyone is supportive and kind (at least to my face). I believe they're that way behind my back, too, as I have worked hard to be a giving person in my community and to foster a sense of family wherever I go and whatever I do.
