Okay, so it's only day 3 and I'm still floating on the pink cloud of empowerment. But I had fun in the shower today shaving my stubble instead of bemoaning the loss of hair. (I bought a Headshave and am slowly getting the hang of it.) Last night I went to my writer's group meeting and "flipped my wig" for them. I've sent pictures to lots of my family and closest friends and have gotten a really positive response. I love the feel of cool air on my head. I love my new wig but I love being without it as well. I am in a much freer space, and feel liberated. I can't make a decision for anyone else, but I can share my experience. It is great so far. Will keep you posted to see if the glow fades.

Congratulations, this is a great story, and I admire your positive outlook. I felt the same when I first went bald. Such a liberating experience.

As long as we're on emoticons, how about this one, which is how I sign emails now:

Nants, I think that you look GREAT! Your positive attitude is downright inspirational! Personally, I'm growing beyond being alopecian. I'm bald and that is just me and to hell with it. I do understand your glow and the stronger you get, the more your light will shine. Best regards, Jamie

Okay, I still love being bald. However, I have my new alter-ego Superhero, Velcro Woman! I just had an idea to market a line of colorforms (remember those felt things from childhood) for anyone with some stubble to decorate the pate. What do you think? HA HA HA I think the lack of hair has gone to my brain...

You said it, Cheryl! Once you accept that this is the new you...you don't see yourself with hair. I think it's about accepting the reality of the situation and moving on. As I've commented elsewhere on AW, this is what I look like now, and I think life is too short to spend time and energy trying to conceal it from the world.

I'm about to take off on my first scuba diving trip as a bald woman. I think it's going to be great not having my hair tangle in the mask strap, not having to struggle to stuff my hair under the cap, and not having to untangle it and dry it off between dives!

Nants congratulations on allowing yourself to just be. Once you let go of the "haired" you then I find you enter a new era. I no longer see myself with hair and it is not a bad thing at all. I don't pine for what I use to have or be and am truly happy looking in the mirror and dealing with what I am now. Thanks for sharing your triumph, nothing like spreading positive energy!

Nants, congratulations on being free! I just saw your post. You look beautiful! If you're like me, the glow will only increase.

I also sent photos of myself bald to friends and family right away...I think that's a very healthy thing to do.
If you haven't already read the posts, please check out the new group "Sisterhood of Women who Shaved". There are lots of positive comments there about being bald and loving it.
