Stopped alopecia and getting hair back

Hi. i have had alopecia areata for almost 15 yrs. Recently I visited my dermatolgist and he gave me prednisone for 16 days and locoid cream to be put twice a day. In one month i can see baby hairs growing in all my bald spots. i hope this piece of info will help someone who needs it. Now he gives me a shot of kenelog every month. He said my hair should be completely normal in 6 months.

I have not been on Prednisone for 5 months now and I now have baby hairs EVERYWHERE with

ROGAINE 5% Men, Protopic Ointment, Olux E everyday and soon in January I will have to taper off

of those products slowly within 2 weeks and keep my fingers crossed the hair will not fall out---

I had AA 2 half/dollar size patches One in the frontal one and one at the nape of the neck---Now you can not

set the patches at all (UNBELIEVABLE)  I still have to pinch myself that the bald spots are almost gone

Im very happy for all of you that have gotten new growth.  And not to sound like a wet blanket, since Im sure all of you have read many blogs here.  I have had alopecia for over 28 years.  In that time I have used all of the above treatments with success and not so much success.  I lost hair, went bald, grew hair, then spent years with bald spots that would come and go and now today bald again.  The treatments are just that treatments....they are treating the symptoms not the underlining cause.  I just dont want all of you to feel the despair I felt when the treatments finally stopped working.  I do hope that your regrowth continues and that returning to the doctors is always good for it helps keep alopecia research going.

Happy Holidays to everyone

to tell u the truth, if prednisone will bring it back, so be it. i gained weight. i feel like a water balloon. but when i look in the mirror, all i see is little baby hairs and i smile. the end justifies the means. God, I'm so hardcore sometimes.lol.

Sorry I Mean I did NOT gain any weight using prednisone--It was a temporary thing 2 weeks---I had a typo earlier

I'm sure if you did have to do prednisone everyday you would gain weight that is one of the things that

is labeled on the bottle--WEIGHT GAIN Just remember to exercise that really helps

I never gained weight and it was a temporary thing to make sure something was  not terribly wrong

But I do exercise everyday maybe that is why I did gain any weight

also prednisone makes you gain weight!

prednisone is a steroid and has huge long term effects on your body. i take it because of lupus and my hair is growing back but i wouldnt just take it for hair loss. it suppresses your immune system making it easier for you to get sick. it can cause eye problems such as glaucoma and cataracts.
