I was thinking about everything and wondering when it is that everyone noticed their first patch. Did it appear after a traumatic or stressful event? Was it completely out of the blue? Tell me your story.

My first patch with totally out of the blue as far as I know. I did work at a very challenging job (middle school special education) and lost a wonderful teaching assistant because she didn't have seniority. The person who replaced her was difficult and the students didn't like her at all. So..... it may have begun with stress.

My alopecia didn't start after an emotionally stressful time. But, it did start at the same time I was having pain due to an ovarian cyst. So, I guess that was a stress on me physically.

When my son was 3 years old I noticed my crown, the part in my hair was widening. I also noticed a dime sized bald spot behind my ear. This was 18 years ago. It took all that time to get to where I am now. My spots were so bad, I buzzed what was left of my hair off. I look and feel so much better.

I was in a really bad rollover in a truck and cracked my head open. Waited a few months for my head to heal to get my roots of my hair done. Went into my girl and she asked if hair had been ripped out of my head during the accident cus I was bald in 2 spots. Had a melt down right there in the salon lol

Yes, it appeared after the worst time in my life, and no I don't want to talk about it. ( I did have a couple of minor spots in childhood, but lost it all after my whole world crumbled around me, and my life went to shit, all my dreams shattered blah blah blah).

My first time with AA was in 2005 january in 10th grade and it was only 3-4 months(maybe 3 patches). 2nd time was 2006 january-07 march and one patch never gone (5 patches). 3 happy years with no problem with hairs. Third time was 2009 october, day when i must go to Afghanistan to war, i shaved my head with machine like soldiers do and i see 3 very small patches. I suspected my alopecia come back and i maintain my kenalog injections and needle from my alopecia old days and my mother inject me but needle didnt work :D:D. So there i was with alopecia in helmand desert fighting with taliban, sometimes i forgeted i have alopecia because hair loss was my small problem i hoped it extend 3-4 months like first time but no, after 8-9 months i discover my right eyebrow is smaller then my left eyebrow and here i am now with no hairs and eyebrows and lashes. I love my bald head but i want my eyebrows back so f....ing badly. I inject myself with kenalog to eyebrows only because i dont want my hairs back only eyebrows, it was 8 days ago and now must wait and hope.I hope my hairs never grow back it was 3rd time i dont want 4th and 5th time to go through hair loss.

I first noticed a thin patch on the side of my head, then a patch at the nape of my neck whilst on hols, great, that has all grown back but i keep my hair really short because after years of being tied to long hair a new more confident mehas emerged. I have had no leg hair for a few weeks so welle see what happens next, but im starting to see it as part of me.xx

What sent me to the dermatologist was such an intense itching/burning that I wanted to chop my head off. I had some thinning, but hadn't yet discovered the spots. I didn't process my hair, so it was thick and bushy, which hid the beginning small spots very well. The alopecia was officially confirmed by a biopsy. Hmmm, so I guess the alopecia was kind of "out of the blue" at the time of diagnosis. However, in hindsight, when I think back on all the skin and scalp problems I've had all my life, I probably had the lichen planopilaris for years. I was always told that the problems with my scalp were dandruff or dry scalp. I have chosen not to dwell on the "what-ifs" of receiving an earlier diagnosis of the lichen planopilaris. Meh. Can't make the world spin backward. :)
