So about 3 weeks ago I received my new Freedom wig. I was really scared at first because I didn't want to get my hopes up about it. I didn't want to get it, put it on, and hate it! I didn't want to find out that after all the time, effort and money that went into getting it, it wasn't for me.

Well my fears were quickly put aside...I LOVE IT!! It is so comfortable and realistic. I have found that it makes me more satisfied with me. What I mean is that having been bald for as long as I have there were times when I would look in the mirror and despise the person I saw staring back at me. My new look makes me feel like ME again! The person I feel like inside. When I take it off I don't mind what I see because I know that I have a choice.

That is so great. I just ordered my vacuum wig from Freedom also. I have been so nervous about the whole process just because i'm afraid it won't look like me and i won't like it.
I am so glad to hear you love yours. Is it hard to get use to. I was told by my Freedom rep it takes a couple of weeks to get use to but people who have them LOVE them.
I won't get mine until March/April 2012. How long did it take to get yours?

ok, more questions for you! did you have to get it cut and styled? i will because i wear my hair sort of short and even my wig i wear now is sort of short layered. I'm nervous about the transition from my synthetic wig to new one since it's going to look different and will wear it a little longer than my synthetic. I do have a gal that is very experienced with cutting, coloring and styling vacuum wigs but it still makes me nervous. I feel exactly like you DID!
So, any positive feedback from you will be so greatly appreciated. really excited for you!

Very cool that you are happy with your hair! Those fears are totally understandable. I am soooo interested in saving for a Freedom wig. The questions that keep popping up in my head are...what about perspiring? Does it look nice if you put it up? Does it feel claustrophobic? And how is it if you get an itch on your head? LOL

Leslie...I did have to get it cut and styled. It was recommended to me to start out a bit longer than how I may think I want it, just to get used to it, you can always cut it again but it won't grow back;) I found someone locally that had experience cutting wigs. I met with her first and brought in the wig, than on the day she cut it I wore it in and she cut it right on my head. I had totally forgot what that felt like. I feel as though I will be going back in for another trim. I started the process in June and got it at the end of October. I was blessed and my insurance helped pay for a good chunk of it, I hope that I will have the opportunity to get another one someday:)

Deana...so far I haven't had any real issue with perspiring, the summer will be the big test. My husband was concerned that it would be uncomfortable, but I told him it can't be any more uncomfortable than the scarf and hat combo I was accustom to wearing. Mine is a big shorter, however before I had it cut I did pull it up in a pony and it looked great! The silicon is so thin that I can carefully scratch at the itchy sight. It truly is amazing!

That is awesome!! I have been considering saving up my money for one. I met a Freedom wig consultant at an event who wears one, and it was amazing to see how realistic. I'm glad to hear that you like yours so far. What did you have to do to get insurance to pay for some of it? I have AGA, but I'm not sure if my insurance would pay for any portion. So you can't tell it is a piece at all when you have it in a ponytail? If you can, post pictures one day! I would love to see it. I'm excited for you!!

Yay! It all sounds good...you are tempting me to break out the credit card again. Lol! Do you have a picture of you in your new hair?

That is wonderful about your insurance helping with the cost of your wig! Was it complicated for you to work that out?

wow, how did you get insurance coverage? i called mine Blue Cross/Blue Shield and they said "cranial prothesis" is not in my plan - :( You are very lucky! I may try again with a letter from my Dermatologist!
I can't tell you how good it feels to hear you are so happy with your wig. I am so nervous about getting it and having it styled to look like me. I do have someone very experienced in cutting, coloring and styling these type of wigs. I am going in tomorrow to have her help me pick out my color so as soon as i do that my rep. will turn that in with the rest of my order.

What i think will be so nice is that i hear you put it on and it feels so good you can forget about your hair loss. I am so tired of thinking and seeing it 24/7! It will be interesting to see how it feels in the heat. But i workout now in a wig cap and synthetic wig on top so i'm use to it but i'm sure the vacuum will get warmer but I DON'T CARE!

Yes, i was told to have it cut gradually. I worry that i will look so "noticeable" since my current wig is short. I will eventually have it styled shorter but not as short as my synthetic i wear now.

Did you get any wave or curl in it? I think we are putting light curl in mine since my own hair was naturally curly and i really miss that. thought i would never say that.

Thanks so much! Please post pics when you can. Oh, i also am getting a "gripper" wig for my 2nd to alternate. I hopefully can juggle the 2 to look alike. They are cheaper because they are not custom but tried one on and it felt great.

I would definitely have your Dermatologist write you a letter. I had help from my GP, I think because she saw me more and knew my situation. My Dermatologist wouldn't help me out because he said he had never "treated" me for alopecia. Now my big concern is what to do when I have to send this wig in for repairs:/ I did get a bit of a wave in it, just for fun more than anything else. It has been so long since I have had hair that I didn't really have a memory of what my hair used to be like. I've never heard of a gripper wig. I will post some pics soon:)
