None of my friends have Alopecia, yet all do have one thing in common: SELF-DOUBT. It occurred to me that we worry about how the world will respond to our hairless heads, while they are worrying about their big bums, pimples, blotchy skin, etc etc. We have a unique condition but the problem we have - namely, self-doubt - is common to all.
Here was my advice to her, and it applies to us Alopecians too:
Think of yourself as an amazing gift to the world. Think of what you are and all you have to offer.
Your clothes, figure, hair, make-up, nails, accessories are all the elaborate gift-wrapping. Yes, it's amazing to receive a beautifully wrapped gift, but how disappointing when it's something cheap and tacky once opened.
I'd rather be the unbelievable gift, wrapped in newspaper.
Nuf Said!
Forget about looking in the mirror and rather look inward and see the unique and miraculaous person you are. We Alopecians don't have "gift wrap" and it is a blessing - we are forced each and every day to live authentically and work on making sure the package is unbelievable.
Have a fantastic day!
