I'm so frustrated. I look ridiculous with a giant bald spot on the back of my head, but I will look ridiculous bald. I've just got to take the plunge and shave it all off. I'm thinking about investing in a hat... I'm 22 and have never worn a hat before. My wife keeps telling me that she loves me no matter what, but I feel guilty that she has to go through this with me. How long until the depression lets up?

The sooner you nip it in the bud with any kind of confidence-builder, the better. Do not let the depression build. Go right to any kind of solution that will make you feel better, even if you consider it temporary. This will give you some good times, compliments, good lovin', and good photos to talk about later. Document a walk down a fun street with camera and TV-type commentary from you and your wife. Look in shop windows to see your reflection, pose by store mannequins, interview bald people. This could be hilarious for parties. Make it a record of your feelings and "coming out." Someday you can present it at alopecia or school groups...or to your kids. Maybe take several hats to try out! Get opinions, hand out alopecia info. Make funny business cards. Then go have a great dinner in a classy restaurant to end Day One!
