I just purchased my second wig but this time from a full service salon. My previous wig was purchased at a place that only sold wigs and I didn't even feel like I had to tip when making my purchase (wouldn't have wanted to anyway caused I felt rushed and as though they were forcing styles on me not to my liking.)

Anyway, for the one I recently purchased, which was $800 ($300 more than the last one I bought), I tipped the guy $25 because I felt more inclined to since it was a full service salon and he spent alot of time on me - he made the mold of my head before shipping it out to China, and then he helped me try it on for the first time and trimmed up my wig to shape my face etc. He also gave me a bunch of wig tape (since my wig is a partial cap and I have to many bald spots that I can't use only clips and need the tape in some areas). He told me he would mail me more in the future if I needed more.

I'm still new to all of this, but does anyone tip where they buy their wig? I felt like $25 wasn't enough, but I wasn't going to tip 20% of $800. What's the norm?

Thanks!

The salons sell the wigs for more than the wigs cost online, so I think the service price is already built in.

I have bought from a few Salons and so far the salon price has been almost double or more than what they can be purchased for online. The nice thing about a salon is you can try it and get a good idea as to how it will fit, most of the time. If someone trims the hair or cinches it up for me and does not charge extra for the service and I feel they were helpful and I wasn't rushed then I will offer a tip.

He sounds helpful but I would think $20 would be plenty to say thanks. He made $300-$500 on that wig. Of course he has overhead. My daughter had a wig made from a mold and I paid $1800 for one of her first wigs. It took 6 months to have made. I now get them online and they fit better and pay $425. They arrive in about 1 month. Message me if you want the site. Anyone can cut the lace, you just follow the hairline.
