Has anyone here successfully changed there diet to regrow hair? I have been looking into claims of people going vegan/organic and have amazing results. I'm mostly a veg/fruit eater myself but I still included some animal products.
I suspected as much. Thank you, Sandy. Any FFA tips and hints while you're here?
I have been a vegetarian/ vegan for 26 years. I waver between adding cheese in my diet and trying to not eat it. My diet is extremely healthy, and I ate things like Kale and spinach before anyone knew what it was. I have never found that my diet has altered the pattern of my hair. I have had total hair loss for almost 20 years.
I have tried years of naturopathically supervised supplementation, foods, etc...
I wish that food would be the factor which grew all of my hair back, however its never worked for me. No treatments I have tried have worked either and their have been many. So I believe it comes down to the degree of auto immune compromising factors involved.
I will say with complete certainty that when I keep a clean healthy diet I feel much better all the way around. More energy, less weighty feelings. I can sleep better and am able to cope with life in a much more positive way.
Matt....I have Alopecia Areata, diagnosed in 2014. I lost about 85 % percent of my head hair, all of my arm hair, leg hair, underarm hair. In late 2015 I started regrowth on my head hair. Today I have all of my head hair back. But the arms, underarms, only a very little growth on leg hair (dang!) never came back. At same time of AA diagnose, I was having severe food allergies. I was 55 at time. It sent me on a journey to watching what I ate, staying away from certain foods I tested high to. So for 2 years I have eaten gluten free, somewhat dairy free, ( I drink almond milk, use it in cooking, baking anything that calls for milk, gluten free butter type, fake gluten free mayonnaise) I occasionally eat (organic cheese, hard to stay away from!, organic meats, vegetables, fruits at home. I eat fish, salmon(wild caught) mainly. Chicken,Turkey, some beef, very little pork. In the beginning it was mainly fruits and vegetables, some chicken, turkey and fish only. I am careful when I eat out. At first it was hard but now it is my normal. I have been seeing a Natural Dr. for the food allergies, he guides me. I also go to a great Acupuncturist. Use Essential Oils. When I bake, cook, I follow Paleo or gluten free cookbooks. I do not know for sure that the diet has helped my hair but I have pretty much ceased to have reactions to food, I think the hair regrowth came along wtih it. Like others who have tried watching their diet, it certainly cannot hurt to try, you’ll feel better !!!
My diet is mostly vegan, although I have fish or shrimp occasionally.
I doubt that the occasional fish has caused my alopecia. Please let me know if you hear otherwise.
The advantages of a vegan diet are low cholesterol and blood pressure, in addition to good karma for my animal friends. Sorry, I don't think a vegan diet offers any guarantee of protection
from alopecia.
Candida diet saved my hair. I followed healingnaturallybybee.com strict diet. That alone wasn't enough though. Please take digestive enzymes too. If you don't digest in a timely fashion, putrefaction is the result. Which breeds bad bugs. If you don't digest all the food you eat, the same consequence. You can eat all the organic vegan food, raw food, won't work. The raw fiber is very hard to digest. For most of us. Also, biotin , big dose, was crutial for me. For a while, I had to eat liver to bring up my serum ferritin levels. Don't neglect this detail, please.
Also,I can't handle any conditioner on my scalp.
Once you healed yor candida, many ! health problems will resolve. And you will not have to take pills for thyroid, depression, arthritis, asthma and so forth.
Take probiotics.

yes I concur, veganism is more likely to be associated with hair loss (I think statistically this seemed to be true in my nutrition courses in nursing school...of course I take all statistics as one should with a grain of salt.) However, I'd say it's more likely the lack of fat and protein that is the issue; also once those areas have had the hair loss (total hair loss, as in bald and NO hair) for some time, I suppose it will never come back? I think I read that in more than one place. Also crash diets; I know some people that definitely had some severe hair thinning, and some of them never got it back. So keep eating fats and proteins in healthy ways is what I took away from this. If you're vegan it is MUCH harder to make sure you get that protein. I want to start drinking bone broth too, anyone know where I could buy it pre-made? I looked in a few places, and I want the real deal.
