Hi,
I'm Amy, and I'm new to Alopecia World (and the World of Alopecia). I started losing hair about a month and a half ago, got tested for everything ever, and was told that either it's a (really unlikely) reaction to my immunosuppressant (which I was on for eczema), or just plain ol' alopecia. So about two weeks ago my body upped the ante to include my eyebrows (ugh), lip (good news!), and legs (better news!). It's freaky, and it doesn't seem quite real yet (even as I sit at work wearing bandannas and sporting my 2 mm eyebrow bits). I'm considering shaving my head, even though I still have quite a bit on the top of my head, but REALLY visible bald spots all over the back and sides. I'm frustrated by the fact that I can't seem to get motivated to clean up all the hair around the house, as if/when I lose more, it's just gonna be that much more obvious and depressing. I also know that if/when I grow hair back, I'm going to look ridiculous if I don't hack the long(er) hair off. I have an appointment for a wig-fitting tomorrow, so it would be really easy to just get buzzed.
I probably won't be wearing the wig at work, as I am not a very cosmetically motivated person, and I work in a library with the most ridiculously caring and sweet people ever. And I have a wonderful husband who said "I'm happy with whatever makes you happy". So there's not a ton of motivation to wait 'till I get a wig, but I would love to hear from those of you who've been through this - How'd you feel when you shaved? Did anyone regret it? Should I wait 'till I have a wig?
Thanks so much for just being here, it was so nice and helpful to read about all the people with the same crazy stuff going on!
PS- I'm a vegetarian, and so of course everyone is asking me if my not eating meat has contributed- I think they're nuts, and my doctors don't seem to think it has anything to do with it. Any thoughts?
Thanks!
Amy
